NEW DELHI: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), in collaboration with the University of Delhi, hosted the “Study in Korea Fair 2024” from June 28 to 29 at the Multipurpose Hall, Sports Complex, Delhi University.

This is the first time that such a Fair is held in India, featuring a total of 16 universities from various regions of Korea. These universities include Ajou University, Cheongju University, Chungbuk National University, Daegu University, Hanyang Cyber University, International Graduate School of Language Education, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Kyunghee University, Kyungpook University, Sejong University, Semyung University, Sunmoon University, Vision College of Jeonju, Woosong University, Yongin Arts & Science University, and Youngsan University.

Representatives from these universities introduced their programs, admissions processes, and campus life to high school and college students, as well as educators and representatives from academic institutions across India, including those from Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with university representatives and learn about the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) and other funding options available for Indian students. Additionally, Indian alumni who had studied in Korea shared their experiences, offering valuable insights into academic life and cultural adaptation.

In his congratulatory remarks, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) LIM Sang Woo of the Korean Embassy said, “I am pleased to have convened the first-ever Study in Korea Fair in India and I hope Korea will contribute to nurturing the future leaders of India.” Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh of DU expressed his hope that many Indian students will find opportunities to study in Korea through this event.

The Study in Korea Fair 2024 aims to promote bilateral education and cultural exchange between Korea and India, serving as a bridge for Indian students aspiring to pursue higher education in Korea. The fair showcased diverse academic opportunities, scholarship programs, and the cultural richness of Korean universities.

The event also featured cultural performances by DU students and the Korean Cultural Centre, including Samul nori, K-pop, and Taekwondo. A Collaboration Corner provided a dedicated space for educational institutions from both countries to explore partnership opportunities and foster academic collaboration.

The Fair aligns with the Study Korea 300K project, unveiled by Korea’s Ministry of Education last year, which aims to position Korea as a global education powerhouse by 2027. Under this five-year plan, Korea is restructuring visa policies and permanent residency options to make it easier for foreign students, especially those from India, who are not only proficient in English but also possess considerable talent and share cultural similarities that facilitate studying and working in Korea. Through these efforts, Korea aims to address the challenges posed by a declining birth rate and aging population.
