NEW DELHI: The 19th Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing (JIM) that aims at training Indian youths on the Japanese style of discipline and manufacturing skills, has become operational in the Neemrana Industrial Complex, Japanese Zone in Rajasthan – about 116 km from New Delhi.

On Friday, SUZUKI Satoshi, Ambassador, Japan inaugurated the KAI-JIM facility, which has been set up by Kai India, the Indian subsidiary of the well-known Japanese cutlery manufacturing company Kai Corporation, the producers of high-precision nail clippers, razors, and kitchen knives.

Ashok Kumar Chawla, Advisor for Japan, Ministry of External Affairs, Bimal Kumar Sikdar, Director, International Cooperation & Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ved Mani Tiwari, COO, National Skill Development Corporation, and Rajesh U. Pandya, Managing Director, Kai India were also present on the occasion.

In November 2016, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI)to offer opportunities to train 30,000-floor leaders and engineers who meet the Japanese standard for manufacturing and services in the next 10 years.

JIM has been promoted as one of the concrete programs to achieve this goal with the cooperation of METI and AOTS (Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnership). Since 2017, more than one thousand students have successfully completed this program across India.

“I sincerely congratulate the establishment of the 19th JIM, KAI-JIM, and hope that it will contribute significantly to advancing this endeavor. Human resources development is one of the most important elements that will create a much-needed basis for further industrial development. The Government of Japan remains fully committed to continuing to render necessary support to Japanese companies for making further investment in India,” said Ambassador SUZUKI.

From the viewpoint of human resources development, JIM aims at educating young Indians the Japanese style of discipline and manufacturing skills. At the same time, through this program, we would like to raise the overall level of manufacturing-related human resources in India and thus contribute to the “Make in India” and “Skill India” initiatives advocated by Prime Minister Modi.

As a comprehensive cutlery company, Kai Corporation is one of the finest manufactures in Japan with a high reputation. Kai India started their activities in India in 2012 and has manufactured mainly three products in India: nail clippers, razors, and kitchen knives by using Japanese product names.

Kai India has contributed to India not only in manufacturing products but also in enhancing hygiene control. Specifically, the company is working towards improving Indian daily hygiene practices through the development of special nail clippers for the Indians.

As people in India use their hands for eating as a common practice, the company is providing special nail clippers with picks that can remove dirt from between their nails.

Ambassador said, “I would like to commend Kai India for their contribution to the “Achhi Aadat (Good Habit)” Campaign by JICA India Office by free distribution of this nail clippers to schools and police. I am convinced that this is another effective approach to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases.

“The coming year 2022 will mark the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and India. We have decided to celebrate this auspicious year under the theme of “Building a future for our Centenary,” manifesting our hope that our friendship and partnership would grow even stronger towards the 100th anniversary and beyond,” Ambassador SUZUKI added.

He said he was confident that today’s event and the coming commemorative year will further strengthen the partnership between India and Japan.

“I would like to conclude my address by offering my best wishes for the great success of Kai India and all the Indian students who are willing to learn in its JIM program. Thank you very much,” he added.
