Japan’s leading food and cold chain companies have exhibited their keen interest to set up their shops and expand their footprint in India.
A delegation of representatives of as many as 13 leading Japanese companies led by Ambassador of Japan to India Kenji Hiramatsu met with the minister for food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal during 1st Japan-India Food Dialogue in New Delhi recently.
These companies included Yakult Danone India, Ise Foods Inc, 3F Fuji Food, Indo Nissin Foods, Innovation Thru Energy Co, Itochu India, Japanese Standard Processing, Kagome Co, Marubeni India, Mitsubishi Corporation India, Nissan Steel Industry Co, Senko Co and Shinmei Co
In March 2018, Ambassador Hiramatsu and Minister Badal had agreed to hold regular meetings to promote investments in the field of food processing industries by Japanese food companies, and based upon this agreement, the first dialogue was held in New Delhi on September 26, a press release from Embassy of Japan in India stated.
Some of the companies that participated in the dialogue had also taken part in the World Food India 2017 – a mega food event organized by Ministry of Food Processing Industries of India (MoFPI), last November. Japan was the Partner Country in World Food India 2017.
Ise Foods Inc., Kagome Co., Ltd., Nissan Steel Industry Co., Ltd., Shinmei Co., Ltd. and Innovation Thru Energy Co., Ltd. Had participated in World Food India 2017 too, and have decided to launch their business in India.
The stakeholders in India place high expectations towards Japanese food processing technologies. In order to promote investments in the field of food processing sector, the MoFPI and Ise Foods Inc. had signed an MoU in Mach 2018.
For the other Japanese companies, we are trying to improve the business environment for investment in India, by having discussions and exchanging information between the Embassy of Japan in India and MoFPI, including signing of new MoUs with MoFPI.
During 1st Japan-India Food Dialogue, minister Badal paid strong attention to the presentations made by Japanese companies and had intensive discussions with them.
Japan and India agreed to have the 2nd Japan India Food Dialogue after three months.
