65yr old Korean marathoner Kang Myung-Koo receives warm welcome in India

South Korean running 11,000 km from Jeju Island to Vatican City for world peace currently in India and would meet Dalai Lama in India and Pop Francis in Vatican City.

NEW DELHI: On a 400-day peace run between Jeju Island and Vatican city 65yr old Korean marathoner Kang Myung-Koo discovered a new India where he received a warm welcome on his way to New Delhi recently.

“I did not India is a country of kind-hearted, and peace-loving people who bestowed a huge amount of welcome  and greeted me with warm hearts throughout my journey to New Delhi. Before I enetered India, I was told that India is a tough country with unhealthy food, pollution etc but I found the good things only here,” said Kang Myung-Koo on his arrival at the India Gates.  United Korean Community Association in India president Euy Don Park received him here. Here, a huge number of Indian people surrounded him and got photos clicked with him and his Peace Carriage that he has been along with him.

United Korean Community Association in India has also arranged for a Hyundai SUV along with food and water bottles to escort him throughout his run in India.

Later he was invited by the Korean Embassy where he met with Ambassador Chang Jae-nob and other diplomats. The Korean Cultural Centre India also hosted Kang Myung-Koo at its New Delhi office Sr. Jagdip Singh, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Chandigarh also hosted a reception for Kang Myung-Koo at IIC in New Delhi.  Jinhwa Song, Consul General, Korean Embassy was also present on both the occasions.

“Korea is India’s most important trading partner in Asia and our countries share a strategic partnership, visit of Kang will further help improve professional and cultural bond with Korea and further strengthening our ties in the area sports  education and culture . It will also help in supporting global harmony” said Jagdip Singh, Honorary Consul General, Republic of Korea and Chairman Sigma Group of Companies while welcoming Mr Kang .

Kang Myung-koo, a 65 year old marathoner , a cerebral infarction patient from Republic of Korea (South Korea ) has been running a marathon for World Peace and to bridge the divide between South and North Korea since October 1, 2022 is currently in India to further strengthen relations between India and Koreas and meet the Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness Dalai Lama.

Kang Myung-Koo a cerebral infarction (A stroke caused by interruption and blockage of blood flow to brain) took a decision to run 11000 km from the Jeju Island to Rome through 19 countries for 400 days that even a healthy young person would not have dared to imagine. Having launched his mission on his feet along with a hand-kart in which he carries his luggage on October 1, 2022 in JejuIsland of peace in South Korea, Kang has been running through Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, and now has entered India from Kolkata early this month.

“During my run in various states in India I got tremendous support and has further encouraged me in my mission of promoting world peace and unity . People in India are helpful, extend great hospitality and are spiritual. One gets feeling of one world, “said Kang Myung-Koo.

On his mission, Kang marathoners will cross 19 countries from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. His travel plan includes countries from Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Greece, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, and finally Italy.
