Taiwan’s Fu Jen Catholic University students, faculty visit University of Mumbai

Previously too, a similar kind of delegation under the banner of FuJen Starlight in India (輔印星空) visited other Indian cities but the Monday visit was their first visit to Mumbai.

MUMBAI: A delegation of students and faculty of Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan led by Albert Wei-min TANG visited University of Mumbai recently as a part of a voluntary mission to interact with Indian students and share knowledge about Taiwanese culture and other concerns.

Ms. Jennifer Makhecha (Tseng, Hsiao-Li), Chairperson, Taiwan Chamber of Commerce Mumbai and Associate Advisor of the ‘Overseas Community Affair Council’ in India facilitated this meeting between the two sides. The event was hosted by the Department of Civics and Politics of University of Mumbai, and coordinated by Dr. Liyaqat Ayub Khan.

“The presentation from Taiwan side that included 15 students and two teachers was through Taiwan movies. Taiwanese students introduced their favourite Taiwan movies based on different society and culture topics. It’s really successful event and students of University of Mumbai seemed overwhelmed by this informative interaction,” said Ms. Jennifer Makhecha.

Alber Tang gave a very good and awesome presentation on the topics of history of Taiwan film, and introduced Taiwanese culture through film effective introduction.

Albert Wei-min TANG, who is a Ph.D. Scholar in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies, and Practioner in International higher education, Promoter of Film Festivalisation and Curatorship, and Participant of Indiawallah events, enjoys a very good reputation in Taiwan.

His current positions include Associate Professor, Graduate institute of Mass Communication, Fu Jen Catholic University (EMI courses on Indian Cinema, Chinese Cinemas, Inter-Asian Cinema, European cinemas and inter-cultural communication, Global Communication and Cultural Diplomacy, Visual Culture Studies.

Albert Wei-min TANG is also Vice President, Association for South Asian Studies, Taiwan Honorary President, Chinese Goodwill Association, Taiwan Executive Director, University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific, Taiwan NS Supervisor, Student Service-Learning Delegations to India (since 2013), and Coordinator, European Film Festival on FJCU, various film screening, post-screening talks.
