Mandarin-speaking Indian students preferred choice for Taiwanese Cos: Taiwan Envoy
Taiwanese companies like Foxconn Group and many others are entering India and are ready to hire a large number of Indian talents, preferably with knowledge of Mandarin, and Taiwan at good salaries.
NEW DELHI: Taiwan has said that more and more students in India should take up Mandarin (simplified Chinese) language and enhance their knowledge of Taiwanese culture to enhance their career prospects with Taiwanese companies that are coming in big number to India. Those knowing Mandarin would be a preferred choice fo these Taiwanese companies.
Taiwan’s Representative to India, Ambassador Baushuan Ger said this during his address at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in New Delhi on Wednesday.
“Taiwanese companies like Foxconn Group and many others are entering India and are ready to hire a large number of Indian talents. Mandarin-speaking students who know Taiwan well will have priority opportunities to be hired and work in Taiwanese companies with good salaries. It definitely is a good career opportunity employment for Indian students. In the future, through TECC, we will be able to cooperate with various universities and HEIs in Taiwan to carry out substantive programmes such as faculty exchange, student exchange, research, workshop and seminar,” said , Ambassador Baushuan Ger, who is the chief of Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC).
Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC), New Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University on Wednesday joined hands to promote educational collaboration between the two sides. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between the two sides.
In addition to setting up Taiwan Education Centre for Mandarin learning, JMI would also have a Taiwan Studies Programme at its campus so that students get more knowledge about Taiwan.
This semester, more than 80 students want to take Taiwan’s Mandarin courses. It shows that with the accelerated economic growth and the presence of Taiwanese investment in the future, more students are expected to learn about Taiwan. The University is also looking forward to recruiting more Mandarin teachers to teach on campus from Taiwan.
Organised at the JMI campus, the MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Taiwan’s Representative to India, Ambassador Baushuan Ger, Deputy Representative Dr. Mumin Chen, Director of the Education Division, Peters Chen, Secretary Ms. Jen-chen Tsai and the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Dr. Najma Akhtar, Registrar, Nazim Hussain Al-Jafri, Dean of the International affairs, Mukesh Ranjan, Dean of the Head of the Department of humanities and Language, Prof. Mohd. Ishaqul, in-charge of the Department of Language, Prof. Shahid Tasleem and some other faculty members.
Vice Chancellor, JMI, Dr. Najma Akhtar said that the university have had a fruitful association with Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University through university-to-university MoU for a decade, but there is no other sister university from Taiwan. It is the moment to establish multi-faceted cooperation channels with other Taiwanese universities. In addition to the original Mandarin language cooperation, the MoU signed today will expand more cooperation in STEM and all other fields with concrete international exchanges programmes. Vice Chancellor also took an exchange programme with a German university as an example to welcome more students from Taiwan in the future.

Vice Chancellor praised Ambassador’s idea and planning beyond language as effective and a changing milestone today and said that, in addition to Taiwan Education Centre for Mandarin learning, JMI would like to have a Taiwan Studies Programme at the campus so that students get more knowledge about Taiwan.
Peters Chen, Director, Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre, expressed his gratitude to Vice Chancellor’s support and look forward to having fruitful exchange programmes with many more universities in Taiwan. He welcomed more Indian HEIs to contact and work with TECC in terms of academic and research programmes. Currently there 26 Taiwan Education Centers in different campuses in India.
Jamia Millia Islamia is a comprehensive university with a history of 103 years. It is located in the center of the capital New Delhi. According to the NIRF, it is currently ranked third in India with a high academic status. There are currently about 20,000 students on campus. Dr. Najma Akhtar is the first female Vice Chancellor in JMI’s history and she is an advocate of gender equity.
