Expect more, have bigger dreams, Deepa Malik tells kids

Gurugram came together for SAPNO KI UDAAN 2019, an event that celebrated those living with Autism and their amazing strength and positivity. April is being commemorated as Autism Awareness Month all over.

The event was held on April 26 at DLF Cyberhub and hosted by”Pure Hearts” -a children’s initiative, “DLF Cyber Hub” and “Mom’s Belief”.

It was successful in inculcating the true spirit of inclusion in the community for those with Autism and to show sensitivity to integrate them into mainstream society as a full valued person.

“Pure Hearts” is a children’s initiative,  aged 4 -18 years, from different schools and different residential areas of Gurugram has been spreading awareness and supporting underprivileged children, special/differently able children, war veterans, environment protection, senior care, children with cancer/critical illnesses since 2015.

The occasion had the privilege to honour and welcome the legendary Dr. (h.c) Deepa Malik, Paralympic Winner, and Padma Shri & Arjuna Awardee. Her words of grit and positivity touched the hearts of over 2000 spectators present in the audience. She encouraged the parents who have children with autism and special needs to expect more and have bigger dreams for their kids. She has fought every adversity with bravery and her daughter, Devika Malik, is a real-life example of how as a parent of a child with a disability she worked to help her overcome it and have a normal life.

The evening was organised with stunning performances by differently-abled and underprivileged children from NGOs and schools in Delhi and Gurgaon. Shivang, an autistic child prodigy from NGO ALAP, with his melodious voice, Heritage (SEN) School’s special song performance and a beautiful dance performances by their school children, Kathak by Rasik Performing Arts, a vibrant contemporary dance by Zenith Dance Academy, a musical from autistic children of NGO Vishwas, Mime from Lotus Petal Foundation and an enthralling dance by Sanshil Foundation gave the kids a platform to express themselves   Pathways School Gurgaon gave a touching dance performance to depict the struggles and strengths of living an autistic life.

The occasion saw a heartfelt and meaningful amalgamation of talent, uniqueness, and diversity of life and an audience of over a thousand people from Gurugram and NCR.  Navita Sharma, a parent says, Through Pure Hearts Initiative, these children are constantly working to sensitize and educate the society to be mindful and inclusive. For the past one month, the children of all schools, of NGO’s and through the support of Mom’s belief and Cyber Hub, have put in a lot of hard work to make it a meaningful initiative.

Geetika Chhikara– A pure heart child from DAV school said- “We come across many special needs children and see their struggles, Our effort, through such events is to accept diversity of life and make them normal and accepted, like the rest of us “.

Mom’s Belief quoted – This event is one of our many steps to create awareness for Autism. Our belief is that ‘ No child should be left behind’. We want to empower parents irrespective of their background and want them to – Express – their happiness and joy;  Expect – the best for their child; Love – truly from the heart.

Last year also, “Pure Hearts Sapno ki Udaan 2018” was staged at the DLF Cyber Hub.  It is the third year in running for Pure Hearts children to bring together such a large number of children and people from so many diverse backgrounds and show love, acceptance, and understanding towards Autism and its uniqueness and diversity of life.  The world will become a more sensitive and more inclusive place with such noble initiatives.
