Five Japanese startups pitch for deep tech collaboration with IIT Delhi

Japan and India Deepen Technological Collaboration Through NEDO and IIT-Delhi Partnership

New Delhi, June 11, 2024: In a significant step towards strengthening technological collaboration between Japan and India, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) hosted a high-profile event titled “NEDO IIT-Delhi Japan Deep-Tech Collaboration.”

Five deep tech startups Digireha, Inc., Nano Frontier Technology Co. Ltd., Closer Inc., C&A Corporation, and MiraiKikai, Inc. made detailed presentations at IIT Delhi on Tuesday.

The day’s agenda was packed with insightful presentations and discussions. The opening session laid the groundwork for understanding the current landscape of deep-tech collaboration between Japan and India.

The collaboration event featured a diverse lineup of innovative Japanese companies showcasing their cutting-edge technologies. Below are some notable companies and their contributions.

Takeshi Yoshida, Director General, NEDO HQ flew in to attend and address the event from Tokyo. Takashi Ariyoshi, Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan, Prof. James Gomes, Dean International Programs, and Yoshiro Kaku, Chief Representative, NEDO, India were also present on the occasion.

Represented by Managing Director of India, Jagjeet Singh, Digireha is a pioneer in developing digital interactive applications aimed at rehabilitation. Their advanced solutions are designed to support physical therapy and rehabilitation processes, enhancing patient outcomes. Nano Frontier Technology Co., LTD. CEO Kaoru Tsuda presented their groundbreaking work on solar heat absorption films. These films are engineered to improve the efficiency of solar panels, contributing significantly to renewable energy advancements.

Closer Inc CFO Naoya Sugie highlighted their advanced robotic solutions intended to automate and optimize various industrial processes. Closer Inc.’s robots are designed to increase productivity and efficiency in manufacturing sectors.

C&A Corporation President Kei Kamada said the company was founded in 2012 as a spin-off venture company from the Institute for Materials Research in Tohoku University, Japan with more than 15 years of experience in bulk single crystals grown from the melt.

MiraiKikai, Inc. Founder & CEO Tohru Miyake said that the company’s robots offered automated solar cleaning systems for utility-scale plants that use artificial intelligence and have brushes and air blowers that allow them to sweep dust and sand off the modules without using water, enabling utility-scale plants to alleviate the problem of dust and sand covering the solar panel modules.

Each of the five companies provided an overview of their technologies and discussed potential applications in the Indian market, emphasizing the mutual benefits of deep-tech collaboration.

The collaboration aims to bridge gaps in perception and promote a more integrated approach to technological advancements, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership that leverages the strengths of both countries.

As the world’s most populous country, India presents a valuable demographic dividend with its young and skilled workforce. This initiative reflects a strategic move to harness this potential, addressing Japan’s urgent need for skilled labor and opening new avenues for economic growth and innovation.
