Japan, Taiwan can collaborate in electronics & smart mobility sectors in India: Kyoko Hokugo
The minister, Embassy of Japan said that Taiwan can leverage Japan’s long experience and expertise in Indian market and collaborate the high-in-demand semiconductor industry as both Japanese and Taiwanese companies have competitive strengths.
NEW DELHI: Japan has welcomed Taiwan to collaborate in the electronics and smart mobility sectors in India and take advantage of it’s over 50 years of experience and expertise of this market. Due to high expectations for cooperation in various industries such as semiconductor, in which the Indian government is trying hard to attract foreign investment, both Japanese and Taiwanese companies have competitive strengths.
Ms. Kyoko Hokugo, Minister (Economic and Development), Embassy of Japan, New Delhi said Monday, “We understand India, with its rapid economic growth, offers many business opportunities and is an attractive market for companies from all over the world. So it is quite natural there are also lots of opportunities for business collaboration among Japanese and Taiwanese companies.”
“In particular, the electronics and smart mobility sectors are areas that the Indian government is focusing on, and thus I think it is quite good choice as today’s seminar’s topic to look for further cooperation in India. I believe that each of the companies participating today has its own strengths in these areas,” said the Minister while addressing “Taiwan-Japan Business Cooperation Seminar and Matchmaking in India,” session at Taiwan Expo in India 2024, New Delhi.
Representatives from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) New Delhi office, major Japanese trading companies Sumitomo and Marubeni, Japanese companies Panasonic, Delta Electronics, and Ahamani participated in this seminar. The business meeting that followed focused on electronics, smart mobility, and smart manufacturing industries, seeking further trilateral cooperation opportunities between Taiwan, Japan, and India. Robert Hsieh, Deputy Representative from the TECC in India, and Kyoko Hokugo, minister (Economic and Development), Embassy of Japan were also present here.
It is important to mention here that Japan entered India in 1972 when Panasonic set up its manufacturing facility here. Then followed Suzuki and Denso who reached India in early 1980s.
Ms. Kyoko Hokugo, said, “For example, Panasonic Life Solutions India has been active in the Indian market for a long time and is known for its smart appliances and solutions that improve living environment of the general public, and is also interested in smart mobility. Marubeni and Sumitomo are the powerful trading companies which have also been involved in many related businesses through trade and investment.”
The minister said that some of the participating companies already have business cooperation in other countries, and in many cases, we feel that they have already established themselves as reliable and friendly partners.
“Japanese companies have a long history of operating in the Indian market, particularly in the automotive industry, and are now developing their businesses in various fields by leveraging their experience and expertise accumulated in this country. Now there are high expectations for cooperation, for example, in the semiconductor industry, in which the Indian government is trying hard to attract foreign investment, as both Japanese and Taiwanese companies have competitive strengths,” the minister added.
Earlier during the day on July 8, the 7th edition of the Taiwan Expo India 2024 encompassing exhibitions and networking events was inaugurated by Cynthia Kiang, Director General of the International Trade Administration (TITA), and James Huang, Chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
120 Taiwanese companies are exhibiting grandly at the Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan), Hall number 2. The opening ceremony was attended Lalduhawma, Chief Minister, the Indian State of Mizoram; Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, Member of Parliament, the Indian State of Mizoram; Manish Sharma, Chairman of the Electronics Manufacturing & Energy Storage Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI); Rajoo Goel, Secretary General, Electronic Industries Association of India(ELCINA); Ambassador Bau Shaun Ger, Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India(TECC); and prominent Taiwanese business leaders.
