Japan Takes Center Stage as Partner Country at World Food India 2024

From sushi-making workshops to cutting-edge food innovations, Japan’s participation at India’s largest food trade fair highlights the deepening ties between the two nations and sets a new standard for global culinary collaboration.

NEW DELHI: World Food India 2024 emerged as a key platform for showcasing global food innovations and fostering international business partnerships. Held from September 19 to 22 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, the event was India’s largest food trade fair, organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI).

However, the 2024 edition stood out due to the prominent involvement of Japan, which was recognized as the Partner Country of the event, further solidifying the strong collaborative ties between Japan and India.

This partnership was part of a broader initiative, with Japan Month being announced by the Embassy of Japan in India to celebrate the deepening cultural and economic connections between the two nations.

As part of this special designation, the Japan India Industry Promotion Association (JIIPA) organized the Japan Pavilion, which became one of the central attractions of the expo.

The Japan Pavilion at World Food India 2024 brought together 25 leading Japanese food processing companies, offering visitors a chance to explore both traditional and modern innovations in Japan’s food industry.

JIIPA arranged special workshops and demonstrations at the IHM, Pusa, New Delhi.

Companies like Yakult Danone, House Foods Corporation, ASUKU India and Ujinotsuyu Seicha presented a variety of products, ranging from probiotic drinks and organic juices to traditional items like A2 Ghee, Sake, Miso, and various fermented food products​.

Visitors were treated to a sensory journey through the best of Japan’s cuisine, with delicacies such as Kamameshi, Takoyaki (Vegan), Yaki Soba, Okonomiyaki, and seafood like Scallops from Hokkaido. The presence of plant-based foods showcased Japan’s commitment to sustainability and healthy living, while the innovative food processing techniques on display inspired Indian businesses seeking modern solutions.

Alongside these exhibits, JIIPA arranged special workshops and demonstrations, with one of the most anticipated events being the Japanese Food Workshop held on September 19 at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Pusa, New Delhi. This workshop featured renowned sushi chef Toru Hashiguchi, who dazzled attendees with a live demonstration of sushi-making.

Participants had the unique opportunity to observe the art of sushi from a master and were treated to an exclusive tasting session afterward.

The Japan Pavilion itself was designed to reflect both the cultural richness and technological advancements of Japan’s food sector. From traditional teas like Matcha to modern energy drinks and probiotic fermented milk drinks, Japan’s offerings at the pavilion were a blend of ancient culinary wisdom and cutting-edge food technology. The pavilion also emphasized the importance of collaboration between Japan and India, showcasing business opportunities and avenues for joint ventures.

Beyond the pavilion, World Food India 2024 hosted numerous international participants, each bringing their own innovations in food technology and sustainability. However, Japan’s role as Partner Country truly stole the show, setting a high standard for the global food community. The Japanese companies presented during the event also explored potential business partnerships with Indian firms, reinforcing the strong trade ties between the two nations and creating opportunities for future growth.

With its diverse range of offerings, from traditional Japanese flavors to futuristic food technologies, Japan’s involvement in World Food India 2024 was a defining moment in the event’s history.
