Taiwan wants Sachin Tendulkar to promote cricket, Amir Khan the Bollywood there
Going bullish on India with huge plans to promote bilateral trade and industry, Taiwan is equally interested in using soft power and smart power to strengthen ties between the two countries, which are yet to have formal diplomatic ties probably because of China factor.
New Delhi. Taiwan has approached Indian Bollywood star Amir Khan requesting him to promote movies and take up other humanitarians issue. The country also wants the living cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to promote train its youths on cricket skills there.
This was disclosed by the Taiwan Ambassador Tien Chung- Kwang, representative Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) on the sidelines of a press conference held in New Delhi on May 8 to announce the launch of Taiwan Expo 2019, which is happening in New Delhi on May 16-19.

“I have personally invited Aamir Khan. I wrote him a letter about a year and a half ago but I have not received a response. I have to say probably he did not receive it. I give him a benefit of doubt. I want to invite him (Aamir) to Taiwan to not only talk about movies, but also humanitarian issues. I consider him a great actor but he is an even better humanitarian,” Tien Chung- Kwang told Asian Community News (ACN) Network.

He asserted, “I will keep on inviting him to Taiwan, I also have a project for him.”
The Taiwan ambassador said that he (Amir Khan) visiting Taiwan definitely will impact many people there as humanitarian.
While talking about Amir Khan’s Bollywood movies, he said he was a great admirer of his movie like PeeKay.
“I just wonder how an Indian can against God as has been shown in the movie, I find it unprecedented. Other good movies of him include Dangal and 3-Idiots,” said Tien Chung- Kwang adding that he wanted to invite Sachin Tendulkar to promote cricket in Taiwan.
“Cricket is in his (Sachin) blood he is no longer playing and cricket should die in him and should promote and he should promote the sport in countries which have never been touched by it like Taiwan. He can teach cricket to our young population. We have a strong team of baseball players in Taiwan,” said he adding that Taiwan wanted to use soft power and smart power to strengthen ties with India.
“We are working on using soft and smart powers to bring the two countries together. We are hoping that we can be connected through high-level visits from governments. Buddhism and shopping paradise encouraging Indians to go and see how Buddhism is practiced in Taiwan vis a vis Buddhism in India,” said Tien Chung- Kwang.
Present on the occasion Manish Singhal, the Deputy Secretary-General and Head International of FICCI said that more and more Hindi movies were being shot in Taiwan, and tourism was also increasing besides trade, which doubled recently. More than 100 Taiwanese companies were doing business with India, he added.
