Japan attack: Three including 12-year old girl killed in Kawasaki stabbing spree
A man attacked the people including school children at the bus stand in Kawasaki with knife. Later he also tried to commit suicide with the same knife but was overpowered and arrested by the police. He too died later in the hospital.
Kawasaki. The number of people died in the stabbing spree in Kawasaki city near Tokyo today morning has reached three.
The dead included a 12-year-old girl who along with other students was waiting for the bus this morning. The other person killed in the incident was a 39-year old man. The attacker too died later after he slit his own throat with the same knife.
At least 18 people were injured in the incident, and 16 of those were school girls. The reason for the attack is not known yet.
A knife-wielding man in his 50’s emerged from nowhere and started stabbing people including children as they wait for the bus near Noborito Park in Kawasaki, 13 miles away from Japan’s capital city Tokyo.
The school bus driver, an eyewitness to the gory incident said that he saw the attacker approach a queue of students who were waiting to board the bus to go to the nearby Caritas School. The school is located in the residential area of Kawasaki.
He said that the attacker all of a sudden started stabbing the children standing the queue, and also barged into the bus and went on to stab students sitting inside the bus too. He was also shouting ” I will kill you”.
He was detained by the police but he had managed to slit his throat with the same knife and was injured. He later died in the hospital where the policemen had rushed him to for treatment.
The victims were rushed to various hospitals in the city.
The Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe described the incident as “heartbreaking”.
The incident has shaken the world as Japan that boasts one of the world’s lowest homicide rates, is considered one of the safest developed countries.
