Leisure is Pleasure: 17th Century Deobagh Gwalior
Ever wanted to live like royalty? At Deobagh I discover the splendour of traditional Indian Heritage and the magnificence, beauty and indulgence of an experience, all at an astonishingly affordable rate.

17th Century Deobagh….The grand dame of Gwalior. Concealed in the city walls, erect and content against the backdrop of the verdant greens, she anticipates you. Murmur her name; ‘Deo….Bagh… magnificent, warm, wise’.
The property has witnessed a lot and has hosted many. The history dates back to the 17th Century. The victorious Jadhavs took ownership of this location where the Mughals would camp and rest. The Jadhavs used this bagh as a summer house and it is still the Jadhav family’s existing home. Today it is a representation of urbane luxury, a favoured among those wanting to be seduced, those seeking ultimate easing shared with an elegant ambience. Neemrana’s Deobagh brags fifteen rooms, – one of which is home to the focus of my visit as nothing beats a property with a story to tell.
ACCOMODATION
I am welcomed with sights of dancing peacocks and sounds of birds that stir your soul and replenish my spirit. For me Deobagh is living an experience. It has a new and an old section, and being a history buff, I stay in the oldest part of the complex – a room on the terrace floor called Sakhya Raja Mandal. My room is spacious and full with day light. Adorned in warm and creamy tones with plush, comfortable interiors, my room features top class amenities and what I really love the most is the spacious bathroom replete with an oversized bathtub, a vanity basin, a private lavatory and a shower; all in all a haven of luxury!
MOOD & FOOD
Terrace cafes in Gwalior are uncommon and remote, so I must give glory to Deobagh, for making complete use of the space in front of my suite and setting up a table with tea and snacks. It also happens to be the first to break the snobbish hotel stereotype.
As the sun set, the glimmering Baradari probably looks even more glamorous from the terrace. My every whim is catered by the very friendly and obliging staff, and with such gorgeous dining options offering fantastic views that I am literally spoilt for choice.
Next morning is breakfast at the Baradari. All through my stay, the food is spectacular and presents a variety of elevating Indian and European classics by means of ingredients of exceptional quality. The Indori Poha and Bhopali Mutton are an absolute must try. A hotel requires an additional element. Good service and Deobagh has that in spades. Deobagh – the mirage. I am sure that I will be very easily lured back.
