Korean women sell household items to raise money for the poor at the Mela

“Charity begins at home” is the clear and loud message from the Korean women staying in India.

These women from Missy India group are busy these days collecting their household items to sell them off for raising funds for donations at the Mela (Fair) they are organizing on November 30, the Friday in Gurgaon.

Not only this, many of them are stitching hand-made cotton bags, making paintings to raise money, 100 percent of which will go for the charity for the poor people.

“It is for the first time that we have decided to organsie a Mela at the office of Korean Association in India. The Missy India group members will bring their household items used as well as fresh to the Mela to sell them off and generate money for the charity. The hundred percent proceed from this Mela will be used for charity,” said Su Mi Woo, the director of the Korean Association in India.

Missy India is a group of enterprising, young and kind hearted housewives of Korean expats working and staying in Delhi NCR region.

According to Eunyoung Jung, the president of Missy India group, these women have started collecting their Korea made household items including garments, shoes, kitchen accessories, stationary, books, oxygen masks, carriage bags, cosmetics, paintings and others.

Erica Jang who lives in an apartment on Golf Course Road is a good artist and these preparing paintings for the Mela.

“I will be bringing paintings which I have specially done for the Mela. I expect to sell each of these paintings for Rs. 5000-10,000. I will be donating the entire money collected from the Mela,” Jang said.

Another woman, Shin Song EE is stitching hand-made cotton carry bags for selling the same at Mela.

“I will bring about 15 of the carry bags which I have stitched myself and expect to sell the same for about Rs. 800 each,” she said.

According to Eunyoung Jung, the president of Missy India group, the Mela is a first-time experiments and if it was successful, the group would organize it on regular basis.

“We have come to know that many foreigners from other countries like Japan organize such fairs to raise funds for charity and therefore we also decided to take the same route to generate funds for the welfare activities. We are expecting people not only from Korean and Indian community but also from Vietnam, Singapore etc to visit the Mela,” Jung.

She said that she expected that more and more people would visit the Mela and buy Korean products so that the poor people get benefited with the funds so raised.
