Aug 15: Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok to address Independence Day event in Korea

SEOUL: Chang Jae-bok, the new South Korean Ambassador to India would participate in the Indo-Utsav event being organized virtually in Korea by Indian Students and Researchers in Korea (ISRK) to commemorate the 75th Independence Day of India on August 15.
The Ambassador’s participation in the Independence Day celebrations would be through the pre-recorded congratulatory message that would be played during the occasion.
Incidentally, August 15 happens to be the National Liberation Day of the Republic of Korea. On this day, it commemorates Victory over Japan Day, when at the end of World War II, the U.S. and Soviet forces helped end 35 years of Japanese occupation and its colonial rule that lasted from 1910–1945.
The Indian government side would be represented by Surinder Bhagat, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India in Seoul, and he will be delivering welcome address.
The event would take off at 4 pm KST and 12.30 pm IST onwards on Sunday. The ISRK that represents over 3000 students and researchers in Korea is a non-profit voluntary organization to support Indian origin researchers and students there.
The initiative of this organization started in April 2019 with an idea was to bring all Indian students and researchers in Korea under a single platform promoting unity among the community as a whole, and to support and help the community in academic and professional areas, as well as to assist to adjust with life in Korea.
ISRK aims to connect all the Indian origin students and researchers residing in South Korea and provide them with educational, research, social, recreational, job, and community support. ISRK is open to all Indian students and researchers, as well as professionals from the industry and corporates interested in ISRKs’ objectives.
As part of its continuous growth in Korea and mutual efforts to continue to strengthen relationships between Korea and India, ISRK and the Research Center of Indian Culture on Science and Technology (RIST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to deepen the collaboration between the two associations.
Its mission includes establishing the largest community of Indian students and researchers in Korea with strong engagement and interaction opportunities, and also promote the better life of Indian students and researchers in Korea.
Its scope of work includes education & research, offering Job opportunities to the members, networking opportunities, Community support during the Covid-19 pandemic, promote Korean culture and language as well as Indian culture and also organize events.
