Japan confers Foreign Minister’s Commendation on Confederation of Indian Industry for FY 2021

NEW DELHI: The Japanese government Wednesday conferred its Foreign Minister’s Commendation FY 2021 on India’s apex trade association Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in recognition of its enduring contribution towards strengthening economic relations between India and Japan.

Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII received the commendation letter from Ambassador Satoshi Suzuki during a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi on November 10.

MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, read, “You strove to promote economic relations between Japan and India, thereby contributing to promoting Japan’s friendly

external relations with foreign countries. In recognition of your distinguished service, with profound respect, I hereby acknowledge your contribution to this Commendation. Awarded on this 20th day in the 8th month of the 3rd year of Reiwa era (2021).”

Following the awarding of the Certificate of Commendation, Ambassador Suzuki noted that CII celebrated its 125th-anniversary last year and has made significant contributions to strengthening the economic relationship between Japan and India.

The contribution can be seen through the co-hosting of the “Japan-India Business Leaders Forum” with Keidanren since 2007, the sending of parliamentary delegations to Japan in cooperation with the Sasakwa Peace Foundation, and the development of human resources in the manufacturing and logistics sectors.

A press communique from the Embassy of Japan stated that the Ambassador also looked forward to working even more closely with CII next year as India and Japan celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2022.

Mr. Banerjee said that CII deeply appreciated the honour, which reaffirmed the strong bilateral economic ties between India and Japan. CII is committed to striving for even stronger economic ties between the two countries as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2022, he added.

The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas.
