February 1 happens to be the first day of the Lunar New Year 2022, which is the tiger year as per Taiwan’s Zodiac system.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan initiated the scholarship program to encourage outstanding Indian students to take degree studies in Taiwan and promote communication, understanding, and friendship between India and Taiwan. There are two types of governmental scholarships.
The Taiwan Scholarship is open for students aspiring for undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. degrees. The MOE Taiwan grants 40,000NTD [Approximate USD1,428; 104,244 Rupees] as the tuition fees for the scholarship recipients every semester. Apart from the tuition fees, The MOE Taiwan provides each recipient undertaking university undergraduate studies a monthly stipend of NTD15,000 [Approximate USD535; 39,055 Rupees]; it provides each recipient undertaking a master’s degree or doctorate studies a monthly stipend of NTD20,000 [Approximate USD714; 52,122 Rupees].
Similarly, the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship aims at encouraging international students to learn the Mandarin language in Taiwan. The duration of the scholarship is 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. The MOE grants the HES recipients 25,000 NTD [Approximate 65,116 Rupees] as a monthly stipend. Last year, there were 72 awardees.
The MOE in Taiwan grants scholarships to 45 students this year. There were 1.2 Lakh international students studying in Taiwan in 2020, out of which 2,700 students are from India. Most Indian students were pursuing their Ph.D. degrees in the fields of engineering, life science, computer science, medicine, business, and humanities.
Director of Education Division, who represents MOE Taiwan, Peters Chen said,” MOE Taiwan will spend around 15 Crores Rupees for this batch of awardees if they are going to complete their Ph.D. programmes, not mention to the language scholarship.
The MOE has provided scholarships to Indian students for many years and the budget is worth the effort, because strengthening scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship talents are clearly the basic requirements of the driving force of a country’s development. We take young generation as human capital, not just students or human resource.”
“We hope all aspirants submit the application forms with the required document.
