She led the children go door-to-door in the locality to collect household waste like newspapers and plastic bottles, sold them to raise money to buy utilities for the security guards.
This act of her also made the parents of these children overwhelmed when they saw their children contributing
“In children, I wanted to inculcate the habit of giving back to the society, and for this, I used play-way method. I made them play some games to make them have fun in the activity. I also included a couple of children of the security guards as well,” said Sana who is a product of Anupam Kher’s acting school Actor Prepares. She was in Mumbai and was into acting before moving to Gurugram recently.
Sana told the children that the society should also think of the welfare of the people who sacrifice their comfort to make the lives of others secure.
Suhana Malik, 7 who is fond of drawing and dancing, said, “We collected newspapers and plastic bottles from our neighbours to sell and get money in return. We used this money to buy some gifts for our guards who secure us and our homes day and night. I really felt good by seeing the smiles on their faces.”
These children collected about 185 kgs of waste which they sold for about Rs, 1,900 to buy socks, towels and other small gifts for the guards.
Rohit Singh, 11 the son of a driver said that his mother who worked as domestic help in the society was so happy that her son was a part of this activity and was learning something meaningful.
Other children who participated in the activity included Dev, Gayatri, Karan Singh, Aman, Mohit and Karan.
Karan, 12 a grade 7 student at Ridge Valley School grade 7 said, “I learned that we should not only think about ourselves but about others too who spend their precious time to make sure that we are safe. They sit outside in freezing temperatures throughout night in order to protect us.”
Sana also made the children aware of the significance of the Republic Day, and why it was commemorated at such a large scale.
“I told the children that we achieved freedom after the sacrifices of our soldiers who laid their lives in the service of nation. It was not Mahatama Gandhi alone who fought for the freedom of nation,” Sana said adding that she wanted to get into social work without any consideration.
“It may be a fad or profession for many but for me, social service is a cause for the welfare of the poor and needy,” she added.
