TOKYO: In a true manifestation of the fact that Japan has started looking forward to India for sourcing skilled manpower ‘seriously’, a Tokyo-based company has not only emerged as one among very few Japanese companies to become a Sending Organisation (SO) under the newly launched ‘Green Channel’ scheme of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in India, but it also secured a contract from another Japanese SVO to identify, recruit and train skilled trainees from India within two months of gaining the status of Indian SO.

Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize – a Tokyo-based IT company recently became SO to source semi-skilled manpower for various trades under the framework of India’s flagship skill program TITP (Technical Intern Training Program).

The company has entered into a contract with a SVO of Tottori – a coastal prefecture in southern Honshu, Japan’s main island, to source a large number of skilled trainees in nursing, caregiving, and agriculture fields from India. Majorly known as an agri-based economy and the world’s growing healthcare destination with the highest proportion of the young population, India has ample manpower to send to countries like Japan, which are facing an aging population and scarcity of manpower issues.

With these concerns in mind, the Tokyo-based Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize has vowed to promote TITP program as a part of the expansion of its international business operations.

The company was one of the first Japanese firms to evince its interest to become SO when India last year had cut short formalities for Japanese, and other foreign firms to empanel as Sending Organisations, and offered them the ‘Green Channel’ route by setting aside the requirement of RFP formalities for becoming SOs for Japanese firms to give a much-needed impetus to its slow-moving TITP program.

Comsize’s long-standing commitment to promoting TITP:

According to Mr. Yuji Otaka, CEO, Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize. it’s not the first time that the company has been keen on sourcing skilled trainees/manpower from India and considered this country as the major source for a very long time.

“Earlier in the year 2019 also, Comsize was part of a Japanese delegation comprising supervisory organizations that visited India looking for skilled manpower in the field of information technology (IT), food processing, nursing care, civil construction, agriculture, and other trades under the TITP Program.

Mr. Raturi Omprakash, Overseas Business Head representing Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize was part of this delegation that had visited the Indian government-run Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSV), Gurugram, near New Delhi with “ASIA NETWORK KUMIAI, a huge SVO based in Osaka. Raturi says, his CEO has a huge amount of interest in Indian skilling universities due to which he also visited ITI Pusa road just before returning to Japan.

The good thing about Kabushiki Kaisha Comsize in TITP is they are not just exploring business collaborations in India but also promoting Indian candidates in Japan. Recently, comsize has organized a big golf tournament in Osaka’s “Art Lake Golf Club” to promote their International business and entry into India.

Changing narrative for the foreign workers in Japan

Setting aside the rumours that foreign professionals are not well paid or don’t assume higher positions in Japanese firms, many companies in Japan have started to reverse the trend by allowing their employees, executives, and engineers of foreign origins – especially from India, the autonomy, and offering them equality and respect at workplaces.

“We often encounter rumours doing rounds that foreign professionals are not well paid or do not hold higher positions in Japanese companies.  But Comsize’s top management thinks differently and wants to foster a multicultural work environment in the office space where everyone works together in a congenial work environment.  Recently, Kabushi Kaisha Comsize has organized Comsize Cup and offered the company’s foreign executive, Mr. Raturi, the opportunity, and the honour to award prizes to the winners during a golfing event we organised in Osaka As per Mr. Yuji Otaka it is the 21st century and the corporate world must think globally to succeed in any kind of business.

Mr. Yuji Otaka said that the Japanese companies now wanted more and more foreign professionals and skilled workers, especially the Indians to come to Japan and work here in the welcoming work atmosphere.

This statement from the Comsize CEO comes at the time when Japan and India, both are celebrating the year 2022 as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. A series of efforts and new initiatives are being rolled out by both sides to promote bilateral interests, especially in the field of art, culture, language, trade, commerce, and industry as well as people-to-people exchange. Promoting TITP program is one of the core concerns for both nations.

When contacted Mr. Raturi Omprakash of Comsize, said, “In my over 10 years of experience in Japan, I have worked with many companies, including large MNCs, but the support and cooperative working environment and encouragement employees get while being with Comsize is unparalleled.  I know I have to work hard to succeed in Japan.  But Comsize also values the personal lives of its employees. It’s committed to offering them the much-needed work-life balance.  We frequently host a variety of fun events and outdoor activities for hard-working professionals.  As an Indian, I would like to increase the number of Indian professionals in my organization and strengthen the relationship between India and Japan.”
