After two years, Japan Foundation New Delhi reopens its library, art gallery to public on April 19
NEW DELHI. The Japan Foundation New Delhi (JFND) announces to open its library and art gallery to the public on April 19 (Tuesday) onwards almost two years after it was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
To make the opening it’s facility, the JFND will organise several cultural events such as “Meet the Author Pallavi Aiyar Talk on ‘Orienting: an Indian in Japan” on April 16, and an Exhibition “TOHOKU-Through the Eyes of Japanese Photographers at the Tenshin Okakura Gallery on April 23-May 21.
However, to ensure the safety of all visitors, several preventive measures will be taken to minimize the risk of infection such as ventilation, sanitization and other facilities. As a result, the library will take online appointments in advance and set a limit on the number of people staying of one time. Also IFND would make sure of complying with the SOPs of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and wearing of masks is compulsory for all visitors.
The “Meet the Author Pallavi Aiyar Talk on ‘Orienting: an Indian in Japan” event will be held in virtual mode through the Zoom platform.
Pallavi Aiyar is an award-winning foreign journalist and an author, and the session would be moderated by Yojiro Tanaka, the former Director of JFND and an author.
Pallavi Aiyar is an award-winning foreign journalist, who has worked as a foreign correspondent for over two decades reporting from China, Europe, Indonesia, and Japan. She is Associate Editor of The Globalist and writes a weekly sub stock newsletter on global culture, The Global Jigsaw. Pallavi is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and has served on the WEFS Global Council on the Future of Media and Entertainment She is the author of several books including “Orienting: an Indian in Japan”, “Chino-memoir, Smoke and Mirrors, the novels “Chinese Whiskers ond Jakarta Toils, and on axploration of contemporary Europe’s challenges, New Old World”. Pallavi was a Reuters Fellow at Oxford University and is the youngest winner of the Prem Shatio memorial prize for political reporting for her dispatches from China.
The Exhibition “TOHOKU-Through the Eyes of Japanese Photographers” will be organised at the Tenshin Okakura Gallery, JFND.
The exhibition of photographs of Tohoku (Northeast region of Japan) curated by Kotara lizawa who is recognized as the leading expert of photography critics in Japan. This exhibition is composed of the work of nine individual photographers and one photographers group. By presenting the viewpoints of highly individualistic photographers who represent the past, present, and future, this exhibition aims to enhance understanding of culture, climate, and life in Tohoku to the people of the world.
