NEW DELHI: Amity University Haryana’s Centre for Korean Studies is set to host a spectacular “Hangeul Day” celebration 한글날 on October 15th, 2024 at Sunken Plaza (in front of Deja Bru) located in its Gurugram-based sprawling campus, also called Amity Education Valley. This event, aimed at honoring Korea’s unique alphabet, Hangeul, will provide attendees with an enriching cultural experience through traditional Korean food, games, music, and dance.

The event is supported by the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) as part of the prestigious AUH-AKS Seed Project 2024, showcasing the growing cultural and academic ties between Korea and India.

Amity University Haryana (AUH) is notably the third university in India to receive this significant project funded by the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS), South Korea. The funding, which will cover a span of three years, is dedicated to expanding Korean Studies academic activities at the university.

Dr. Santosh K. Gupta, the Project Director and Head of the Center for East Asian Studies, is leading this initiative. As a prominent Koreanist in India, Dr. Gupta brings invaluable experience, having been academically trained at the Academy of Korean Studies in South Korea. His previous roles included teaching and working at several prestigious Korean universities and institutions, solidifying his expertise in the field.

The AUH-AKS Seed Project 2024 is part of a larger effort to expand Korean Studies at AUH. The university is planning to introduce new BA and PhD programs in Korean Studies, creating more opportunities for students to explore Korean language, history, and culture in depth.

These academic developments will be accompanied by events like the upcoming international conference on “Opportunities and Challenges in the Evolving Korea and South Asia Partnership: Exploring Historical, Cultural, and Economic Dimensions”, which will take place at AUH on November 13-14, 2024.

Dr. Gupta’s leadership in this project has garnered immense recognition, and his vision for expanding Korean Studies aligns with the broader mission of the AUH-AKS partnership.

The event will immerse attendees in Korean culture while highlighting the significance of Korea’s expanding influence in South Asia. It promises a day filled with Korean food, traditional games, and captivating performances, offering a unique opportunity to experience the vibrancy of Korean culture firsthand.

Dr. Gupta concluded by saying, “Events like Hangeul Day are crucial in building cultural bridges. We are proud to offer this platform where students, scholars, and the community can engage with Korea’s rich cultural heritage. This celebration is just the beginning of many more initiatives to come as we work toward a deeper connection between Korea and South Asia.”
