Artists never retire, or get tired: Padma Shri Biman B. Das

The artists exhibiting their works at Luna Arts’ Group Art Exhibition “In the Realm of Dreams” at AIFACS New Delhi received valuable tips from eminent artists and critics of India.

NEW DELHI: The octogenarian eminent Sculptor/Painter & Padma Shri Awardee Prof. Biman. B. Das has called upon the artist’s community to work relentlessly to achieve their goals as artists never get tired or retire from their work. Their passion for their work keeps them motivated regardless of their age.

Chairman of the All India Fine Arts & Craft Society (IFACS) in New Delhi and a former Principal at the College of Art in New Delhi, Prof Das said this while addressing young artists exhibiting their works at Luna Arts’ Group Art Exhibition “In the Realm of Dreams” at AIFACS New Delhi on the inaugural day. Renowned cartoonist Irfan Khan, well-known art director and critic Qazi M. Raghib, celebrity visual artist Ajay Samir, and celebrity artist Vijendra Sharma were also present on this occasion.

Speaking in the capacity of chief guest of “In the Realm of Dreams”, Prof Das said, “I am 81, and I continue doing my creative work to date. Very soon I am going to have my 30th solo show of my sculptures. Even at this age I never feel the age factor. In my strong point of view, artists never feel tired, or ever retired. They should continuously follow their passion and keep working till they achieve their goals.” 

Having received ‘KALA VIBHUSAN’ from A1FACS in 2001, he previously had his solo shows at Taj Art Gallery, Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai, Thriven Kale Sangam, Birla Academy of Art and Culture Kolkata, Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, ICCR, Kolkata, and Art Pilgrim Gallery, Gurgaon, at Sridharini Art gallery, New Delhi, and many other prominent places across India and other parts of the world.

Prof Das was all praise for Smita and her brother Tushar who founded LUNA ARTS and congratulated the duo for organising the 12th art exhibition and the 8th show at AIFACS. The Noida-based art venture, co-founded by artist and entrepreneur Smita and her brother Tushar in December 2019, focuses on providing a platform for talented Indian artists. LUNA ARTS organizes offline art & photography exhibitions in the National Capital Region.

A highlight of the inauguration event was a mystical live music performance by the band APSARAH, known for their atmospheric downtempo sounds with a hint of organic, offering a close-to-the-earth soul experience.

The 22 participating artists from across India included Aditi Bose Mullick, Abhirup Bhattacharjee, Ambika Malhotra, Alka C Singh, Brinda Nilesh, Sanket Gawde, Manju Singh, Raksha S., Yastika Sethi, Manisha Saneja, Yashwant Singh, Disha Hazarika, Ena Saini, Prahalad Bisht, Bhargav, Sai Sumanth Motkuri, Jyotsna Sharma, Saloni Chawla, Naila Praveen, Tushar Kumar, Manveer Singh, and Ramesh Shaw.

The artworks of the participants were exemplary in nature. However, one of the artists from Bengaluru Raksha S had on display three of her artworks and one of them was a Japanese-themed painting.

All the guests including the chief guests took rounds of the gallery interacted with the artists and also delivered valuable tips to make their work better.
