Asian Community News (ACN) joins WJAI, a Web Journalists’ Standards Authority (WJSA) – a Self-Regulatory Body (SRB) of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
With this, the Asian Community News stands committed to following journalistic rules, regulations, and ethics laid down as per the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Codes) Rules 2021.
NEW DELHI: India’s well-known digital news service popular with the East Asian communities, Asian Community News Network (www.asiancommunitynews.com) is now a member of the Web Journalists Association of India (WJAI), a Web Journalists’ Standards Authority (WJSA) registered as a Self-Regulatory Body (SRB) with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
Headed by a retired Judge of the High Court, the WJAI was the first Self-Regulatory Body registered under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Codes) Rules 2021by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
With this, Asian Community News Network reporting east Asian affairs on regular basis with a special focus on Japan, South Korea, Taiwan including ASEAN, stands committed to following journalistic rules, regulations, and ethics laid down as per the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under various sections of Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Codes) Rules 2021.
Amidst growing concerns around lack of transparency, accountability and rights of users related to digital media and after elaborate consultation with the public and stakeholders, the Indian Government in 2021 had framed Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 in exercise of powers under section 87 (2) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and in supersession of the earlier Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules 2011.
In the capacity of Self-Regulatory Body, the WJSA is required to perform functions laid down In the sub rules (4) and (5) of rule 12 for the purpose of redressing grievances related to Code of Ethics under the Rules. The WJAI is also committed to ensure that the member publishers have agreed to adhere to the provisions of the Rules, including fumishing the requisite information under rule 18 of the Rules.
WJAI is a national association of Web Journalists which strives to preserve and protect the freedom of web journalists, and seeks to improve the quality of news content by raising the bar of Web Journalism in India.
Web Journalists’ Standard Authority (WJSA) is a self-regulatory body of publishers registered by Ministry of Information and broadcasting under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 to oversee the adherence by the publisher to the Code of Ethics and address grievances that have not been resolved by the publisher within 15 days.
