Chinese tourist detained for flying drone over Taj Mahal
The 29-year-old tourist, Cui Yu was taking aerial shots hiding in the bushes of the world heritage site complex. He was later let-off after he tendered a written apology.
NEW DELHI. The Indian cops caught a young Chinese tourist for illegally flying a drone for taking aerial shots of the world heritage monument Taj Mahal in Agra city on October 2.
The drone fitted with a camera, its controller and microchip were seized by the policemen and sent to forensic investigation.
The 29-year-old tourist, Cui Yu was, however, let off after he tendered a written apology.
The personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) which is responsible for this world heritage site spotted the drone and informed the local police.
According to the police officials, Cui Yu had reached Agra on Monday to visit the Taj Mahal, the 17th-century monument – a symbol of the Mughal emperor’s love for his wife.
It was Tuesday on Gandhi Jayanti when the footfall of the tourists from India and abroad remains on the peak, the Chinese tourist reached the Taj Mahal and starting flying the drone fitted with a camera over the monument to take aerial shots.
He was controlling the drone hiding in the bushes of the monument compound at Mehtab Bagh.
Agra police officers spotted him and forced him to bring the drone down and later confiscated the hardware.
The police authorities are now investigating if the drone and camera device which Chinese tourist was using had any satellite link to transfer footage or shots of the Taj Mahal to some outside destination.
