Contestants rocked at 2019 LG K-pop Contest Delhi regional round
New Delhi: Korean Cultural Centre India and LG jointly organized ‘2019 LG K-Pop contest Delhi regional round at KCCI on June 22. Delhi alone in its first online round had 430 participants out of which only 92 participants in 27 teams were able to make to Delhi regional round.
A total of 3475 participants and 1952 teams have participated in this year K-Pop Contest from 15 cities of India.
The winners from the round will compete at Grand Finale which will be held on 27th July in Delhi. The Final winner of the 2019 LG K-Pop Contest will represent India and compete in Changwon K-Pop World Festival.
The winners in the vocal category were 1st – Lily Kithan, 2nd – Sonali Sharma and 3rd – Akanksha Kacker. And in the Dance category, the winners were 1st – Lokalz, 2nd – Exponential Crew and 3rd – Girl Crush.
Kim Kum-pyoung, Director Korean Cultural Centre India, said “India just gets on the ride of Korean wave”, referring the increasing number of participants and enthusiastic fan clubs In India. The Korean wave is growing. The more response from India, the higher level of K-pop stars will visit India.”, he added.
Lily Kithan, winner of Delhi regional round vocal category a native of Nagaland says that she is addicted to K-pop music and a big fan of K-pop bands. She has been following them from years. She came across this contest through Instagram. She is excited about the finals and visits her dream destination.
The dance performance by participants on famous Korean bands like BTS, Chungha, Everglow, Seventeen Blackpink, Exo, Itzy, Ateez made the audience tap their toes. The vocal performances on songs like My Love by Lee Hi, starry night by Mamamoo, Hope not by Blackpink were among some other hit numbers among the competitors.
The fierce competition consisted of the online round, regional round, and Final round and there were separate categories for Vocal and Dance Performance. Delhi regional round had 12 performance with 73 participants in the dance category and 15 performance with 19 participants in the vocal category. The final round will happen on 27th July in Delhi.
As of now, Korean Cultural Centre India is organizing K-pop Academy from 27th May to 29th June 2019, to encourage and promote Indian talents. There are 47 students in total enrolled for K-pop Academy in Vocal and Dance category and are being trained by Korean dance trainer Mr. Hyeong Ju Cho and Korea Vocal trainer Kyung Whan Lee.
The Indian representatives of 2016 and 2017 Changwon K-Pop Festival won the Excellent vocal and Best performance awards respectively. Priyanka Mazumdar, the winner of 2016 contest, has recently debuted as K-pop group, Z-Girls.
