Elderly women in their 90’s come forward to get COVID-19 vaccine
At 95, Dropti Nagpal is leading an active daily life and has been indulging in regular walks and physical exercises to stay fit and healthy.
GURUGRAM: Dropti Nagpal (95) has joined the 90’s Club of elderly women who are getting doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the world’s biggest vaccination drive. She is feeling hale and hearty.
A resident of Sector 14, Gurugram recently visited Kalyani Hospital, MG Road along with his son Dr. Sanjeev Nagpal – a senior pediatrician, and daughter-in-law Dr. Lata Nagpal – a senior gynecologist, to get the vaccine shot on March 6, two days ahead of International Women’s Day.
“I have come out of the house after one year to get the vaccine dose. I am feeling very happy today, and would advise all the elderlies to get the vaccine doses to protect themselves from the threat of getting infected with this deadly virus,” said Dropti Nagpal.
Many like elderly women her and in their 90’s are coming out of their homes to get inoculated.
Recently, the 99-year old Joan Sanders, an Australian-origin woman, and wife of Sqn Ldr Dalip Singh Majithia, the oldest living IAF fighter too were administered the vaccine dose. Sqn Ldr Majithia is 101.
At 95, Dropti Nagpal is leading an active daily life and has been indulging in regular walks and physical exercises to stay fit and healthy.
Whether it is about socializing or going out to exercise her electoral right, she has been always on the forefront and is a subject of talks in the locality.
She spent about the entire year 2020 staying at home after the lockdown was clamped in March but has been actively going out before that.
While maintaining her own unbreakable record of casting vote in all Indian elections – general or assembly, since Independence, Dropti Nagpal continues to set an example of sorts especially for those who set out for picnics or stay glued to televisions sets in the cozy comfort of their homes and don’t exercise their voting right.
In October 2019 she participated in the Haryana assembly polls to cast her vote.
Prior to this in May 2019 only, she braved hot weather and walked to the polling station in the vicinity of her home to cast her vote during parliamentary elections.
Going for a walk every morning, participating in religious events like Amrit Vaani and Sukhmani, and also in social gatherings on a regular basis, is the way of life for Dropti Nagpal
Her healthy food habits include light breakfast but after a cup of tea with almonds and biscuits, then follows lunch with a single chapati, etc.
“My mother needs no medicines as she does not suffer from any age-specific ailments like blood pressure and sugar. However, she takes vitamin D and B complex and calcium pills only. She also washes and irons her own clothes so that she remains active at this age,” said Dr. Sanjeev Nagpal.
