Ex-Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, Jugesh Ch. Pegu joins ACN Editorial Advisory Board
NEW DELHI. Jugesh Chandra Pegu – an Indian Revenue Officer (IRS) of 1984 batch, and Former Chief Commissioner, Income Tax (I-T), New Delhi has joined ACN Editorial Advisory Board – a Think Tank of experts, industry leaders, management gurus, academicians, and intellectuals from Japan, South Korea, and India.
A pass-out of North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya Mr. Pegu served in different parts of India including New Delhi, Assam, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh as a top-ranking officer of the income tax department, Ministry of Finance.
Also known as JC Pegu, he retired from the Income-Tax department in the year 2017 when he was Chief Commissioner, New Delhi. Prior to this, he served as Principal Commissioner, Income-Tax in Gujarat between 2011 and 2013.
However, overall, he served the Income-Tax department for 15 years in New Delhi only.
Mr. Pegu is also associated with the Japan-India Business Incubation Center (JIBIC) – an organization that promotes cross investment and facilitates the setting up of foreign companies from Japan and India.
“Japanese finance and India’s Human Resource together can play a vital role in the world economy. The current situation has created a very big opportunity for investors in India. But how many investors can grab this opportunity or how much investment can be attracted by India is a big question. But it is heartening to know that many investors are showing interest in India. Hope the underdeveloped NE region also gets some attention,” he said while addressing a session organized by ASSOCHAM.
In his opinion, South Korea also holds the key for development of industry and Trade in India, and both the countries should work together to promote bilateral trade.

Before joining the Income-tax department he had joined the State Bank of India as probationers and later managed a small rural branch in Assam.
A challenging career behind Mr. Pegu:
As an assessing officer, he had dealt with a variety of challenging cases including corporate, personal, firms, etc. During his tenure in Assam, he had handled all the complicated cases of the North-Eastern region. All the cases relating to tea gardens in NE and search & seizure cases of the region were handled at assessment and appeal late level.
As an appellate authority in Delhi, all complicated cases of the country were handled by him.
Mr. Pegu had also represented cases in the appellate tribunal and settlement commission in Delhi for several years. During his tenure at Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, he was responsible for administering tax laws and assessments. His 35-year experience spans various departments like Income tax administration, assessments, appellate, and others.
An ace golfer, Mr. Pegu was born and brought up in Assam. Recently only he made headlines when he scored “Hole in One” at Delhi Golf Club.
He has been playing golf for the last 13 years and has been to almost all the reputed golf courses across the country, and abroad as well.
