From Odisha to Japan: To push “Make in Odisha”, state CM to lead a hi-powered biz delegation to Tokyo
Patnaik’s visit would begin on April 3 to return to India on April 9. He is scheduled to attend multiple business summits and conclaves between April 4 and April 9 in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
ODISHA/TOKYO: Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha – a state on the eastern seaboard of India is leading a delegation of top Industry leaders from the state to Tokyo to participate in the Odisha Business Meet Tokyo 2023 scheduled on 05 April 2023. The meet is being organized by the Government of Odisha, India in association with the Embassy of India in Japan, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The state industries minister Pratap Keshari Deb and senior government officials also are expected to accompany the CM to Japan. Though the state industries department is fine-tuning the CM’s programme, official sources said Patnaik’s visit would begin on April 3. He will return to India on April 9. The CM is scheduled to attend multiple business summits and conclaves between April 4 and April 9, in the Japanese cities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
The business delegation accompanying the high-level state government delegation consists of representatives from diverse sectors such as Auto Components, Metal Downstream ancillaries, & refractories, Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Food Processing, Textiles and Apparel etc.
The delegation is looking forward to meeting representatives of leading companies and industry associations in Japan and showcasing the vast existing and emerging business opportunities in the state.

The CM’s decision to visit Japan is significant as it is the Patnaik government’s country partner for its biennial business summit, Make in Odisha. It was last held in December. During the visit, Patnaik is likely to hold one-to-one meetings with some of the top potential investors in Japan. There will also be some follow-up meetings to pursue potential investment from Japan during Make in Odisha.
Odisha, a state on the eastern seaboard of India, is the heartland of India’s mineral deposits and the largest producer of steel, stainless steel, and aluminium in the country. It is supported by strong logistic bases at Paradip, Dhamra, and Gopalpur ports connecting the state to the global shipping lanes. Over the years, Odisha has developed into a favoured investment destination. The Government of the state of Odisha is now focused on attracting investments in Metal Downstream, IT & ITeS, Electronics, Apparel & Textiles, Food Processing, Tourism, Green Hydrogen & Ammonia, and Clean Chemicals & Plastics sectors, among others. The Government of Odisha is conducting this Roadshow with the objective of further strengthening economic ties with Japan, aiming at long-term mutually beneficial relationships.
