Haryana Police bags Two FICCI Smart Policing Awards
NEW DELHI. Having earned the sobriquet of Silicon Valley of India, Haryana achieved yet another feat on Friday when its state police were decorated with two Special Jury Awards on Friday.
These awards were given away during the FCCI Homeland Security 2019 event in New Delhi for the initiative of ‘Digital investigation, Training and Analysis Centre (DITAC) and also for the project “Apki Sangini” initiated by Palwal Police in 2017 which comprised of POSH / POCSO and Cyber Crime awareness sessions along with self-defense training to the city girls and women.
ADGP CID Anil Rao and the then Plawal SP Sulochana Gajraj received the award from Jitender Singh, Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s office. The DITAC is operational at Gurugram.
ADGP (Law & Order) Navdeep Singh Virk tweeted the development to congratulate Haryana police for this achievement.
FICCI-EY Report on ‘Innovation Led Cyber Crime Management’ was also be released during the event.
According to Seema Rajput Verma, the CEO of Dvinity Serves who accompanied Sulochana Gajraj for receiving the award, the project “Apki Sangini” was initiated by “Dvinity Serves in association with MSC Agency India and support from Palwal Police in 2017.
“Under this project, 4-day awareness sessions module twice a month was conducted which comprised of POSH / POCSO and Cyber Crime awareness sessions along with self-defense training to girls & women from Palwal District. These awareness sessions were conducted in selected Government Schools & Colleges and Villages of Palwal to sensitize girls and women about Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) and teach them about basic techniques of self-defense. From the year 2017 to 2019, we were able to spread awareness to more 38000 people including students, children women, and general public,” Seema Rajput Verma added.
The galaxy of speakers included Dr A Suryaprakash, Chairman, Prasar Bharti, Lt. Gen. (Dr) Rajesh Pant, National Cyber Security Coordinator, National Security Council Secretariat, Govt. of India, Dr Arvind Gupta, Vivekananda International Foundation & Former, Deputy National Security Advisor, Dr Gulshan Rai, Former National Cyber Security Coordinator, Dr (Maj. Gen.) Ajeet Bajpai, Director General, National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre, Rahul Chaudhry, Chair, FICCI Committee on Homeland Security, and Rajan Luthra, Co-Chair, FICCI Homeland Security Committee.
After receiving the award, ADGP CID Anil Rao said that in today’s modern society, cyber-attacks are on the rise and when such attacks occur, the victim responds with predetermined orthodox action of reporting the fact which leads to an investigation.
Application of digital forensics in the safe recovery of data and preserving forensic evidence is of utmost importance for further investigation. Cyber Forensic Investigation also includes the capture & analysis of digital data either to prove or disprove whether the internet/telecom related theft/crime has been committed or not.
In view of this, CID Haryana being Nodal Agency on the subject has established state-of-the-art “Digital Investigation Training & Analysis Centre” at Gurugram which is equipped with highly sophisticated tools and software in collaboration of National Technical Research Organization, GOI, New Delhi.
An MoU was signed between Haryana Police and NTRO on 11th August 2016. In furtherance to this MoU DITAC was inaugurated by Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana on 28th December 2016. DITAC, Gurugram was first such center established by NTRO in collaboration with state police. Digital Investigation, Training and Analysis Centre (DITAC) is comprised of three wings, namely, Social Media Monitoring cell, Cyber Lab, and Training Lab.
This Social Media Monitoring cell has a capability for monitoring by seven users simultaneously. Trishul, a social media monitoring tool developed by NTRO, is being used. It can monitor major social media platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter. High-end servers and crawlers have been installed at DITAC to ensure effective and efficient monitoring. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring cells have been established in all district units and Range Offices through connectivity to these servers.
He said that Cyber Lab comprises of four sections i.e. Mobile Forensics; Disk Forensics; Video Enhancement and Image Authentication; and Tower Dump & CDR Analysis. In these sections, we have sophisticated and latest high-end tools. By the help of these tools, we have processed total 577 cases in which data extraction of 956 mobile phones, 1011 Sim cards, 227 SD Cards, 105 Pen drives, 132 Hards Disk Drives have been done. 17 cases of Video/CCTV footage enhancement have been done.
Similarly, the Training lab has ultra-modern equipment such as Digital Podium, 3D Visualiser, 100-inch touch screen display and high-end desktop all in one PCs having internet connectivity. This lab has a capacity of training Twenty Five participants at a time. A total of fifty one training courses such as Course on Social Media; Course on Cyber Forensics; Training of Trainers; Technology Acquisition of Smartphones; ATM & Netbanking fraud; Cyber Crime Investigation; Training on Technical Aspects in Investigation of Crime against Women and Children; Collection and Preservation of Digital/Electronic Evidences, etc. have been conducted. A total of 1142 participants of Haryana Police, Assam Police, IB, Army, NTRO, NSG, Goa police, Uttrakhand Police, ITBP have been trained so far, Anil Rao added.
