Heal Tokyo raises funds for the victims of Fani cyclone in Odisha

Tokyo. The volunteers of Japan-based philanthropic organization Heal Tokyo in association with the University of Tokyo Indian Students Association (UTISA) have raised Rs. 56,000 for the victims of the Fani cyclone that devastated the Odisha state of India in May this year.

Heal Tokyo that generated the amount by organizing a Yoga session at Edogawa-Bashi Gymnasium on June 8, transferred the funds so generated to the Odisha Chief Minister Relief Fund the same day of the event.

Tokyo-based noted healing expert and yoga practitioner Nupur Tewari, the promoter of Heal Tokyo said that the 2-hour Yoga session also including meditation, Surya Namaskar, and Prayanaam besides various aasanas (postures) of Yoga for the participants that included students and professionals.  The participants also chanted OM mantra during the session.

UTISA was represented by its president Deepanshu Agarwal and his associate Kedar Otta

Minori Akiya, a Japanese national who attended the fundraising Yoga session, is already contributing funds for the students of a junior high school in Odisha.

In May, the torrential winds flowing at the speed of 175kmph left behind a catastrophic trail of destruction in the temple town of Puri most followed by state’s capital city Bhubaneshwar. The devastation had left eight people dead while many injured and the state had suffered material loss worth billions of US dollars.

The large-scale devastation had left the Odisha state reeling under power and water crisis as the power supply cables had snapped, poles uprooted leaving the cities without power supply for many days.

According to Nupur who was assisted by Heal Tokyo volunteer Yogesh, said that she was impressed by the enthusiasm of the Japanese people who came forward and participated in the yoga session and also contributed for the noble cause of assisting the victims of Odisha tragedy.
