NEW DELHI: Hello Hallyu, the six-part podcast series exploring how the Korean wave captivated Indian fans, and forever changed their ideas of gender, fashion, and romance, gets nominated for the annual One World Media Awards 2022.
Promoted by the Swaddle, the “Hello Hallyu” is one of the three nominees for the awards in the Podcast & Radio Award category with “My Only Story: Back to School” by Media24, and “Too Many Enemies” by Volume.
Interestingly, the Hello Hallyu achieves this feat within one year of its inception by the scribes duo Nirupama V and Sadhana Chathurvedula. The first episode of this podcast titled “What the Hell is Halllyu?” was aired on July 23 last year
In this episode, Nirupama and Sadhana dug deep into the history of Hallyu and its first fandoms in India, from Manipur to Madurai. And to understand exactly how this passion for K-pop exploded in India, the duo interviewed Dr. Vyjayanti Raghavan, the then professor and former chairperson of the Centre for Korean Studies, JNU who could put this evolution into context. She had been associated with Korea since 1976.
