Hony. Consulate General of Korea, Telangana announces gold medals, scholarships for Korean language toppers at EFLU

NEW DELHI/HYDERABAD: In its bid to promote Korean language and related studies, the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, Telangana would award gold medals and scholarships to the students of English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) Hyderabad who top the semester in B.A. (Hons.) in Korean.

The announcement came recently during the visit of a high-level Korean delegation led by the Korean Ambassador to India Chang Jae-bok, to the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad, Ms. Kang Yeonsoo, 2nd secretary (political), accompanied the Ambassador. Mrs. Gu Jung-hyun, the spouse of the Ambassador, also accompanied the delegation.

The Korean delegation also visited some historical monuments in Hyderabad.

The delegation is on a 4-day visit to Telangana where it met the Hyderabad Korean Association members and senior executives of Korean companies.

Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad Suresh Chukkapalli said that the Honorary Consulate General would gold medals and scholarships with 100% tuition fee to all outstanding students pursuing Koran language in the B.A. (Hons.) prgrammes.

He also suggested that the university should offer short-term certificate programmes in Korean to offer an opportunity for those youths who are interested in K-pop and K-drama to study and understand the Korean language.

Chukkapalli highlighted the role being played by the EFLU in supporting and promoting the Korean language and culture by offering different programmes and also for emerging as the hub of Korean language learning in the country.

Ambassador Chang Jae-bok was all praise for the EFLU for making efforts to promote not only the teaching and learning of the Korean language but also to promote cultural ties between the two countries through various cultural and academic programmes.

The Ambassador met the Vice-Chancellor of the English and Foreign Language (EFLU) University and other professors in the Korean Language department and discussed ways to promote the Korean language and culture.

The delegation was informed about the various short-term courses, such as the Certificate of Proficiency, Diploma of Proficiency, and Advanced Diploma in Korean that the university offers, apart from the undergraduate course, which was introduced in the academic year 2021-22.

The Korean Ambassador extended an invitation to Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor and Member, UGC, New Delhi, to visit Korea and explore the opportunities for further collaboration between the EFLU and Korean universities.

He also met the Head of the Hyderabad Korean Association in India and other corporate executives and listened to their updates on the activities of the Korean residents and corporations as well as other suggestions.

Prof. Suresh Kumar assured the Ambassador and the high-level delegation that the EFLU would positively consider their request to offer PG and Ph.D. programmes in Korean soon.

“There will be a lot of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for those who learn the Korean language as relations between the two countries are constantly being expanded and strengthened,” he added.

Ambassador Chang Jae-bok accompanied by a high-level delegation also visited the Indian School of Business (ISB) the next day on Thursday. The Ambassador met Dean Madan Pillutla, faculty, and students. Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad Suresh Chukkapalli was present, ISB said in a release.
