IJBC launches Higher Education and Research Committee (HERC) to focus on India Japan Education, Research Ecosystem
HERC aims to act as a bridge between India and Japan and facilitate practical level exchanges for Higher Education and Research in India and Japan, promoting cultural affinities between two countries, and work closely with educational institutes of India and Japan.
NEW DELHI: In its bid to focus on building strategy and setting directions in the field of Education and Research to promote university ties, student exchange and research, development, and academic excellence, the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC) has launched Higher Education and Research Committee (HERC).
To work as a think consisting of IJBC members and its Independent advisors, the HERC will emphasis on India Japan Education and Research ecosystem.
Led by Sudhir Jaiswal as the Founding Chairman, the HERC consists of Prof. Sujeet Kumar Sinha – IIT, Delhi – IJBC advisory council member, Prof Srabani Roy Choudhury – Centre for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University – IJBC advisory council member, Prof Hemanth Noothalapati – Assistant Professor , Shimane University, Japan – IJBC advisory council member, and Abhishek Choudhury – Vice President , IJBC.
IJBC is focused on synergizing India-Japan engagement in business, trade, commerce, education, and culture. Considering academia and industry as two essential pillars of society, IJBC recognizes that the education focused communities are important partners. Accordingly, IJBC Governing body sets up HERC to drive people to people interactions.
While addressing the HERC launch ceremony at the India International Center, New Delhi on 10th August, Siddharth Deshmukh, President, IJBC said that the HERC is expected to focus primarily on building strategy and setting directions in the field of Education and Research to promote university ties, student exchange and research, development, and academic excellence.
“The purpose of HERC is to act as a bridge between India and Japan and facilitate practical level exchanges for Higher Education and Research in India and Japan, promoting cultural affinities between two countries, and work closely with educational institutes of India and Japan. The current members of HERC are eminent persons residing in India and Japan and worked both in India and Japan in their respective fields,” the IJBC president said.
Yonehara Yashuhiro, First Secretary, Japan Embassy, New Delhi, and Koji Sato, Director-General, Japan Foundation who vowed to support the IJBC’s initiative were also present.
The HERC president Sudhir Jaiswal is President & CEO – Enterprise System Solutions private Limited ( ESSPL), Board of Director – ESSPL and ABSYZ software consulting Ltd, Co founder and Mentor – Cephas research – A blockchain development start up.
Jaiswal is an MBA ( XLRI Jamshedpur) and Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering ( BSc Engineering) from NUT Jamshedpur, CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charter, and is recipient of Fulbright fellowship for Leadership in management at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He has worked at Senior management positions in companies like Tata steel , Mahindra and Mahindra in India and Japan, and has addressed various international conferences.
While setting context of floating HERC, Jaiswal said that academia and industry are two essential pillars of our economy and hence, IJBC recognises that the Education focused communities are important partners to drive people to people interactions.
“In setting the work programme, the focus will be on matters that will help grow the people to people connect and lift educational interactions, that students care about, and where change will make a difference to their lives, where common ground can be found between educational institutions of two countries, and that are at the core of Indo Japan long-term relationship,” he added.

HERC’s work programme will complement the work various Government and academic institutions of both countries are already doing with the students and academicians .
HERC is expected to focus primarily on building strategy and setting directions in the field of Education and Research. The purpose of the Education Committee is to disseminate information – Create awareness, identify and understand policy of two nations (in the field of Education) by inviting experts from both countries, identify and create opportunities for practical exchanges in the field of education at all levels, and identifying opportunities and challenges in the context of India and Japan.
