Hundreds of students at various schools in Nagano Prefecture – a beautiful place known for its mountain resorts, hot springs and fruits in Japan and worldwide, felt the real India from a close range recently when the noted healing expert Nupur Tewari held yoga and meditation sessions here.
Even though down with a fever, Nupur traveled 400 km from her hometown Tokyo and performed various Yoga asanas (postures) draped in Indian ethnic attire – Saree.
Nupur spearheads a socially motivated movement Heal Tokyo in Japan and India.
“I made the students learn rich cultural values and deep-rooted ethos the India – world’s oldest civilization is proud to have. In most parts of Japan, India is known more for curry and naan as many people here don’t really know much about Indian deep-rooted philosophy and values,” Nupur Tewari said.
This initiative by Health Tokyo, which is spreading love, positivity, equality, and happiness through yoga, meditation and counseling were supported by Japan India Women Forum whose CEO too accompanied her to Nagano.
Nupur said, “My endeavor is to empower people through yoga, give them confidence and connect their hearts following the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It can bring real peace in this world
During her visit to Nagano prefecture, Nupur also met the prefecture head, Mr. Sakai Yuji.
“I discussed with Nagano Prefecture head how we can have better and positive relations with India and also attract people from India and promote cultural exchange as well as business relations,” she said.
In her address to the students, Nupur also talked about Hindu philosophy, the Sanskrit aphorism Ahaṁ Brahmāsmi which means “I am Brahman”.
Literally, Aham means “I”, that which cannot be deserted or abandoned on account of being constant, unavoidable, ever-present. Brahma means ever-full or whole.
She said the man alone has the capacity to improve his present state, to guide his future, to enquire and know the truth, and to free himself from the cycle of birth and death through thoughtful actions (karma).
About Nagano Prefecture:
Nagano is known for nine of the twelve highest mountains in Japan and visitors come here for its mountain resorts and hot springs. One of its lakes, Lake Kizaki, is a beach resort popular for its water attractions and games.
Nagano has impressive highland areas, including most of the Kita-Alps, Chūō-Alps, and Minami-Alps, which extend into the neighboring prefectures.
Due to the abundance of mountain ranges in this area, the land available for inhabitance is relatively limited. In addition to its natural scenic beauty and rich history, Nagano was host to the 1998 Winter Olympics, which gained the prefecture international recognition as a world-class winter sports destination, and a Shinkansen line to Tokyo.
Great initiative and a great effort.
