NEW DELHI: The research paper of an Indian student has helped a Korean company develop, what it claims, the world’s first hair loss care product MADHUCA – an anti-hair loss shampoo and tonic.

A huge number of people in Korea, as well as many other parts of the world, use Madhuca hair shampoo and tonic made of Indian tree seed – Madhuca Logifolio, the company claims.

“People not only in South Korea are using our product Madhuca, we sell this in other countries too – USA, China, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Bahrain and Spain,” Kim Chun-Sik, CEO, Bio-interchange Co., the company that produces Madhuca told Asian Community News (ACN) Network recently.

Kim Chun-Sik said he bumped into the research paper of an Indian doctor who mentioned about the anti-hair loss properties of Madhuca Logifolio.

“In 2016, By chance, I happened to read the research paper of an Indian student and got to know about the medical properties of Madhuca such as fighting hair loss, and thought of giving it a try,” said Kim Chun-Sik. He added Madhuca seed oil is one of the natural ingredients in the shampoo and tonic.

Also known as Mahua Longifolia, it is an Indian tropical tree found largely in the central and north Indian plains and forests.

The Madhuca flower is edible for tribals who use it to make syrup for medicinal purposes. It is fermented to produce the alcoholic drink mahua, a country liquor.

Adaptable to arid environments, the Madhuca tree grows in forests of Uttar Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gujarat also.

However, the Korean company is sourcing seeds from Gujarat.

According to the company, MADHUCA contains nature-derived component such as Madhuca Longifocia seed oil, coconut oil, raspberry ketone, palm-oil, guar gum, tangerine peel, mulberry bark, pine needles, heartleaf houttuynia and others like Vitamin B5 inducer, vitamin B complex, etc to protect hair and scalp from external harmful environment.

“We are using Indian and making the good use of Korean technology to produce a fine product to check hair loss and make them more strong,” the CEO said.

The company representatives were in New Delhi recently as part of the Chungbuk Trade Delegation that toured India along with three more companies. The tour was organised by the New Delhi-based Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).

Myoungchul Jang, Director, KOTRA, New Delhi said as many as 40 Indian companies exhibited their interest to interact with the touring Korean companies
