Indian Students Shine at 54th World School Children’s Art Exhibition in Taiwan
Taipei, TAIWAN: The 54th World School Children’s Art Exhibition and Award Ceremony, organized in Taiwan, brought forth a dazzling display of artistic talent from young Indian students. The event not only celebrated creativity but also strengthened the cultural ties between India and Taiwan. Organised on August 13, the prestigious ceremony awarded four Indian students with the highest honors, including a Gold, two Silvers, and a Bronze, showcasing their exceptional artistic prowess.
Among the Indian winners, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh emerged as a prominent source of talent. Ms. Simran Surana, aged 16, from the school, clinched the Gold award with her captivating charcoal sketch that conveyed the message of hope’s enduring power. The Silver awards were secured by Ridhi Aggarwal (age 10) from Mira Model School, whose artwork brilliantly portrayed Indian culture and traditions, and Harjot Kaur (age 10) from Bal Bhavan Public School, who used her art to advocate for women’s education. The Bronze award was proudly presented to Ms. Jasleen Kaur (age 14) from Kesab Bandyopadhyay, whose creation illustrated a vibrant play of vermillion.
Abhishek Verma, Deputy Director General of the Indian Taipei Association, graced the ceremony and presented the awards to the winners.
Peters Chen, Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) in India, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the competition. He emphasized that the event, which began in 1962, garnered participation from over 60,000 students this year alone. From India, a total of 170 students submitted their artworks in May, showcasing a rich tapestry of cultural expressions, including drawing, painting, sketching, tribal art, and wildlife depictions. The entries mirrored the deep-rooted cultural connections between India and Taiwan.
A total of 46 additional works were also recognized with selected prizes. These artworks came from esteemed institutions such as Ramjas International School, Kesab Bandyopadhyay, Bal Bharati Public School Rohini, Morden Public School, Shalimar Bagh West, Sachdeva Public School Pitampura, Evergreen Public School, Vasundhara Exclave, Mira Model School, Vidya Bharati School Rohini, Sumermal Jain Public School, Bal Bhavan Public School, Mount Abu Public School, Spring Days School, Ashok Vihar, Kundan Vidya Mandir, and DAV International School, Amritsar.
The Education Division of TECC has been actively promoting school exchange programs for the past three years. These initiatives have facilitated interaction between Indian and Taiwanese students, encouraging discussions on topics such as UNSDGs, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), culture, history, and school life. To further enrich this cross-cultural exchange, a delegation of 20 Indian principals recently visited Taiwan, laying the foundation for future collaborations and mutual growth between schools of the two nations.
Abhishek Verma, Deputy Director General of the Indian Taipei Association, graced the ceremony and presented the awards. In his address, he encouraged students to continue participating in such bilateral collaborations that foster artistic growth and cultural understanding. He announced that the Indian students would receive their awards by post within the next month.
The award-winning artworks will be on display at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center until August 20th, offering visitors an opportunity to admire the impressive creativity of these young artists. Looking ahead, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education encourages Indian schools to actively engage in its international education platform, facilitating the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and perspectives.
