Introduced: K-Pop, Korean fairy tales, and idioms help Indian students learn Korean language & culture together

From January this year the New Delhi based KCCI has started to organise three special classes; Korean pronunciation through K-Pop, Korean emotion and customs through traditional fairy tales, and Proverbs and Idioms.

New Delhi: Commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India during the current year 2023, the Korean Cultural Center India (KCCI) has devised an effective methodology for the Indian students to trach them Korean language and culture better. For this purpose, it has designed special-format Korean language training classes incorporating Korean-Pop (K-pop), traditional fairy tales, and proverbs and idioms.

According to the KCCI it would also help it keep pace with the growing demand for learning the Korean language and culture in India.

From January this year the New Delhi based KCCI has started to organise three special classes; Korean pronunciation through K-Pop, Korean emotion and customs through traditional fairy tales, and Proverbs and Idioms. The aim is to improve student’s ability to broadly understand conversations with native Korean speakers.

60 students are participating in these classes which started on January 9 and will continue till on January 27.

In 2022, more than 9,500 students participated in the Korean language classes organised by Korean Cultural Center India. The K-culture boom in India caused by Korean dramas and K-Pop drew interest in the Korean language and Korean culture over the past year, resulting in a rapid increase in demand for Korean language and culture classes and heightened interest in Korean culture.

Hwang Il Yong, director of the KCCI, said, “According to the response we receive from the pilot classes, we plan to prepare a variety of classes that can meet students’ needs and constantly draw students’ excitement and interest. Through this, we will do our best to bear fruit of qualitative growth and quantitative expansion of Korean language education in 2023.”

Student Anjali, (20 years) who is already learning the Korean language at Delhi University, has joined these special classes at KCCI also. “Learning at KCCI is further enhanced. Teaching through visuals is more interesting. Idioms and proverbs are helping more in understanding the customs and traditions of a country.”

According to another student Vanshika (22 years) she aspired to become a translator and hence wanted to learn deeply about the Korean culture. “Till now textbook was the medium of her learning the language but this class gave me a wholesome experience and I am thoroughly enjoying it,” she added.
