Kyoto Yuzen is a dyeing technique that originated in Kyoto, Japan in the 17th century. It has mainly been used to decorate kimono, the traditional Japanese dress. Last year, an organisation of Kyoto Yuzen artisans, launched a project to make sarees based on Kyoto Yuzen techniques. Last months the first exhibition was organized in Bangalore.
The upcoming exhibition will feature more than 10 Kyoto Yuzen Sarees. Each piece, hand-painted by highly skilled craftsmen, is a work of amazing art. In addition to the sarees, the promotor will be displaying other Kyoto Yuzen handicrafts, and serving Japanese tea and sweets.
Kyoto Yuzen Saree Project is supported by Kyoto Prefecture. Kyoto Yuzen is a traditional dyeing technique that originated in Kyoto during the Edo period, and is used to make traditional Kimono. The beauty of nature, reflecting the four seasons of Japan, is painted on silk cloth by highly skilled craftsmen, stroke by stroke, with great care.
Kyoto Yuzen is characterised by its rich colours and lustrous designs, with gold paint and embroidery. On the other hand, there are also creations with pale, delicate colours, expressing an ethereal beauty, and contemporary designs that incorporate a modern sense of style.
