Japan invites more Sc.& Tech. students, researchers from India, World

The government, as well as private sector companies of Japan, are offering a plethora of scholarships to attract talent from India and other countries.

NEW DELHI: The Ambassador of Japan in India Satoshi Suzuki has said that Japan is expecting a high influx of students and researchers from other parts of the world, especially from India with more focus on science and technology.

He said, for this, the government, as well as private sector companies of Japan, are offering a plethora of scholarships to attract talent from India and other countries adding that many people-to-people exchange programs between Japan and India such as Sakura Science Program are attracting a huge number of young talents into Japan.

Ambassador Suzuki said this while addressing the 3rd Sakura Science Club Alumni Meet that was held online recently.

“Currently, Japan is making efforts to accept more foreign students from India and around the world. There are various scholarships offered by both the government and private sector, including the government-sponsored international student program. Efforts are also being made to invite excellent researchers to Japan. I hope that you and those around you will be able to make use of these programs to study, work and conduct research in Japan after this pandemic,” said Suzuki.

Sakura Science Program is a Japanese Government-sponsored program to invite young scientists of India to Japan to promote scientific collaborations between our two countries.

Ambassador SUZUKI congratulated the attendees on the reunion and raised the significance of many young, talented Indians being engaged in Japan–India scientific exchanges.

Furthermore, he expressed his hopes for further advancing people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

“I fondly remember attending the 2nd Alumni Meet held at IIT Delhi in February 2020. At that time, I keenly felt how this alumni association, with about 2,900 members, has evolved to form an important part of the bond existing between Japan and India,” the Ambassador added.

He was all praise for the Sakura Science Program and said that among the several people-to-people exchange programs between Japan and India, the Sakura Science Program is one of the most successful ones that is attracting increasingly more young talents.

“The fact that so many people have participated in this science and technology exchange between Japan and India is of great significance and will have a positive impact on our future bilateral relationship….. I, therefore, have high expectations for the 2,900 young Indian scientists who have visited Japan over the past six years, with their deep knowledge about science, technology and culture in Japan,” Ambassador Suzuki added.

In addition, Shingo MIYAMOTO, Minister (Economic), Embassy of Japan explained the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) Scholarships and invited Sakura Science alumni to further pursue studies in Japan.
