Japan plans grand Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!! fair at Japan Month in New Delhi

It will be a landmark event celebrating the fusion of Japanese anime culture and Indian enthusiasm, Japanese products and services, and the richness of Japanese cuisine during the Sept-Oct month.

NEW DELHI: India is set to witness a historical treat of Japanese culture highlighting its grandeur through a diverse array of cultural, economic, and educational activities as Embassy of Japan in New Delhi has planned to organize Japan Month 2024 – a grand celebration of cultural and economic ties during September-October this year.  The flagship event of the Japan Month 2024 will be the “Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!”.

With India’s youth, ranging from teens to those in their 30s, the event aims to showcase the allure of Japanese anime, the quality of Japanese products and services, and the richness of Japanese cuisine. It is also being designed to foster interest in visiting, studying, and working in Japan among Indian youths.

The event will be an “all-Japan” initiative, organized through a collaboration between public and private sectors. It invites active participation from Japanese companies in India and from academic institutions and businesses in Japan aiming to reach the young Indian demographic.

The “Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!” fair, featuring a grand Anime Festival attracting over 10,000 Indian youths, promises to enthrall fans and also foster business connections between Japanese and Indian enterprises.

The main event, “Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!” is set to be a comprehensive Japan Fair incorporating anime, business, and cultural exchanges. Some of the tentatively planned activities include Booth Exhibitions as various Japanese IP holders will exhibit their content, including anime, manga, games, figures, novels, and cosplay.

Another attraction could be live stage performances by voice actors and anime song singers who will perform live, adding to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere. A range of workshops will be available to promote and educate about Japanese IP and anime culture.

Another attraction could be the Business Meet-Ups as designated spaces for business meet-ups will facilitate interactions between IP holders and corporate exhibitors.

The Embassy of Japan in India aims to celebrate and deepen the multifaceted relationship between India and Japan. This grand event will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Japan, foster economic collaborations, and promote educational exchanges.

Backed by notable Japanese organizations, the Japan Foundation, Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in India (JCCII), Japan National Tourism Organization JNTO), Japan External Trade Organization  (JETRO), Japan Association Delhi, and Japanese companies operating in India, the festival ensures a robust support system for its success. “Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!” offers a unique platform for businesses to reach a targeted audience of young anime fans, with various sponsorship packages providing extensive brand exposure and direct engagement with potential customers.

The specially constituted Mela! Mela! Anime Japan! Executive Committee comprising of Chairman Shunsuke Taki, CFO, Corporate Planning & Strategy Head, Sony India Pvt. Ltd.,  and members Toru Yamagishi, Deputy Managing Director, ASICS India & FMCG Committee Chairman of JCCII (Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCII), Takayuki Yamanaka, GM, Mitsui & Co. India ICD, Aoi Ishimaru, Director, Arts & Culture, Japan Foundation, and Orita Kentaro and Hiroaki Uto, the Japan Embassy New Delhi is working extra hard to finalize the exact time, date and venue of the event.

Ambassador of Japan in India & Bhutan SUZUKI Hiroshi is spearheading and closely monitoring the entire arrangement for the Japan Month to make it a big and unprecedented success.
