Interestingly, the year 2022 coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Japan. Closely following is 2023, which is the Golden Jubilee year (50th anniversary) of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea.
South Korea had joined the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2019 for the first time while Japan has been there for many years. In 2019, the focus countries were from Africa and West Asia in the 9th VGGS.
The Gujarat state government has aptly sensed the opportunity and hence, has laid special focus on these two top Asian economies for this prestigious 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2022 that aims at attracting trade and business representatives from Japan and South Korea.
The Vibrant Gujarat Summit is likely to be attended by 150 delegates from South Korea and 200 delegates from Japan. The Indian delegation includes the heads of 30 Gujarat-based companies with business ties with Japan and South Korea.
A top-level state government delegation will organise virtual roadshows in Japan and South Korea this month to promote VGGS 2022 and also interact with the top businessmen, investors as well as prominent members of the Indian Diaspora in these two countries.
Earlier these roadshows were planned to be organized in Japan and Korea physically last month in November but given the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in many countries, the plan was dropped.
A delegation led by Principal Secretary, Department of Labor and Employment, Gujarat, Anju Sharma will organize the roadshows. According to Anju Sharma the VGGS 2022 looks forward to welcoming trade and business representatives from Japan and South Korea.
“We will highlight opportunities for investment in areas such as green mobility, clean energy, agriculture, smart infrastructure,” she added.
The roadshows will be organized in Japan in association with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and in collaboration with Korea Trade Promotion Corporation (KOTRA) in South Korea.
The B2B meetings and the MoUs in that area will take place in the next two weeks. The road-show is part of the pre-summit program which will showcase the investment opportunities available in various sectors in Gujarat, said a state government communique.
It said that Japan and South Korea have strong ties with Gujarat and both countries have a significant presence in the industrial sector in the state.
Japan’s Hitachi, Suzuki, Honda, and Panasonic and South Korea’s Chicken Chemicals, Hyundai Rotem, Songwon, etc. have set up their manufacturing units in Gujarat. The VGGS 2022 Summit offers ample opportunities for Japanese and South Korean entrepreneurs.
Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was conceptualized in 2003 under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India (then Chief Minister of Gujarat). The Summit has today evolved into one of the most reputed global forums for business networking, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships for inclusive socio-economic development.
