Japan to give financial grant of Rs. 1.6 crores (23.66 million Yen) to three Indian NGOs

NEW DELHI: Japan has pledged to offer financial assistance of Rs. 1.6 crores (23.66 million Yen) to three Indian NGOs for setting Mobile Learning Bus in Dehradun, Construction of Elementary School building in Ghaziabad, and Construction of an Institute and an Eye Care Centre for the Blinds, Mohali, Panjab.

The Grant Contracts relating to these three projects funded under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme was signed by the Ambassador of Japan in India SUZUKI Satoshi and the representatives of these non-government organisations on March 10.

These projects are “The Project for the Provision of Mobile Learning Bus, Dehradun, Uttarakhand”; “The Project for the Construction of Elementary School building in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh”; and, “The Project for Construction of an Institute and an Eye Care Centre for the Blinds, Mohali, Panjab”.

The Government of Japan offers a financial assistance scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP)” for development projects designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries.

Since 1989, the scheme has been supporting relatively small-scaled projects implemented by non-profit organizations, such as, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and educational and medical institutions, through Japanese diplomatic missions in developing countries.

The total amount to be disbursed for the abovementioned three projects is around 23.66 million Yen.

The Project for the provision of Mobile Learning Bus, Dehradun, Uttarakhand by the AASRAA Trust will receive a total amount of the grant in 6.53 million Japanese Yen.

Asha Deep Foundation will receive 7.38 million Yen for its Project for the construction of Elementary school building in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, and National Association for the Blind will get

9.75 million Yen for its Project for Construction of an Institute and an Eye Care Centre for the Blinds  in Mohali, Punjab.

The Government of Japan hopes that this new grant project will help to reinforce the quality of living and human security of the people in India and further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Japan and India.
