Japanese education boards take cues from Indian curriculum for their schools, colleges

New Delhi – In a noteworthy shift in global education trends, Japanese education boards are increasingly looking towards the Indian education system for insights into curriculum design, pedagogy, and academic innovation.

Recognizing India’s strong emphasis on technology, sustainability, and cultural exchange, Japanese policymakers are keen to integrate certain aspects of India’s higher education and school curricula into their own framework.

Areas such as digital education, skill-based learning, and holistic assessment methods have particularly drawn interest. This growing inclination towards adopting elements of India’s academic model reflects Japan’s efforts to enhance its own education system by incorporating globally successful strategies, fostering deeper educational collaboration between the two nations.

Recently, a high-level delegation from Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education (TMBE), Japan, visited many Indian educational institutions including Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus, with the objective to learn about the Indian Education System, development of Curriculum Design, Review Process and Learning Content at the Higher Education Level.

The delegation comprised of Koizumi Hironori, Chief Director, Board of Education Department, Iwafune Hirotaka, Supervision & Guidance Officer, High School Education Guidance Division, Agency for Education, Nishimoto Hikari, Supervision & Guidance Officer, High School Education Guidance Division, Agency for Education, Saito Keisuke, Chief Guidance Officer, Guidance Department, Education Agency, Arinaga Masahiro, Officer & Supervisor, Compulsory Education Department, Ms. Wakabayashi Kanako, Guidance Officer, Special Needs Education Guidance Division, Guidance Department, Agency for Education and Takahashi Hideo, Director for Metropolitan High School Reform Promotion Division.

Addressing the gathering, Koizumi Hironori, Chief Director, Board of Education Department, Tokyo, averred, “We are delighted to visit Amity University, one of India’s premier institutions of higher learning. We are highly impressed by the University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and global engagement.”

He said, “We would like to enhance our knowledge about the Indian Education System so that we can apply and implement similar curriculum design and processes at our schools and colleges. We see tremendous potential for collaboration between Japanese and Indian institutions, particularly in areas such as technology, sustainability, and cultural exchange and our visit marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership between our countries.”

Welcoming the delegation, Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “The visit of the Japanese Education Board delegation to our university is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to foster global collaborations and exchanges.”

“We are excited to share our research expertise and academic programs with our Japanese counterparts and explore opportunities for joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges, and student mobility programs. This partnership will not only enhance our academic offerings but also promote cross-cultural understanding and people-to-people diplomacy between our two nations,” added Prof Shukla further.
