Japanese executive robbed of laptop, iPhone by Thak-Thak gang in Gurgaon
The Thak-Thak (knock-knock) gang has been largely operative on Golf Course Road, the mall-mile MG Road, Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road and Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
Gurgaon. After a brief lull, the Thak-Thak (Knock-Knock) gang has again surfaced and become active in Gurgaon.
Recently, Japanese national was robbed of his laptop, mobile phone and important documents on Delhi-Jaipur highway when he was on his way back from the company’s plant in industrial township Bawal.
Flanking the national capital New Delhi, the Gurgaon city is very well known for housing offices of multinational companies and plants, swanky malls and shopping destinations, tony condominiums and a sizable population of expats especially from Japan, Korea and China.
The miscreants struck on Saturday evening when the car he was riding with the driver got flat tyres. As the driver was busy changing the tyre and Japanese executive Go Kawamura went to an eatery to fetch something for him leaving his bag on the rear seat of the car.
The thieves smashed the rear window of the car and fled with the bag containing a laptop, mobile phone and documents near Bilaspur when the ignorant driver was busy replacing the flat tyre on the roadside.
It was only after the Japanese executive returned and found his bag missing from the car, the theft was detected.

All that happened on the busy national highway that remains happening throughout day and night due to inter-state vehicular traffic.
Notoriously known as Thak-Thak (knock-knock) gang, the gang has been largely operative on Golf Course Road, the mall-mile MG Road, Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road, and Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
Golf Course Road with a high concentration of tony condominiums and malls is frequented by a huge number of foreigners especially Japanese and Koreans.
It targets either the parked cars along the road or in unattended parking lots.
They smash the glass windows of the parked cars and run away with the valuables found lying on the car seats.
The modus operandi goes this way when the parked car has a driver in it:
One of the Thak-Thak gang members knocks the car window on the pretext of asking an address or informs the driver of the flat tyre or scattered currency notes outside. They only stage situations like scattering currency notes to divert the attention of the driver. As the driver comes out of the car, another gang member enters the car from the other side and picks up the valuables and flees.
The gang also uses tricks like pouring oil on the car bonnet or distract the driver’s attention as another member of the gang runs away with the belongings lying in the car.
According to police sources, about six incidents of laptop thefts from the cars are reported every week in Gurgaon as the number of laptops stolen from cars last year was counted at 280.
