Japanese women to learn wearing Indian ethnic attire Saree at ‘Saree Seminar’

NEW DELHI/GURUGRAM: Coming Saturday, Japanese women would try their hands on Indian ethnic, yet contemporary attire – Saree, and learn the basic nuances of draping Saree in five various styles during an India-Japan cultural exchange event ‘Saree Seminar’ in Gurugram, near New Delhi.

For this Kaseyyaka – The Authentic Banarasi Store has joined hands with Aju Ryokan-Japanese Hotel to organize the event exclusively for the Japanese women staying in Delhi NCR. The event aims at educating them about Indian Saree culture and demonstrating five different styles of draping a saree.

Both India and Japan have profound and vibrant cultural heritages that truly captivate people and visitors from all over the world. It’s fascinating to see how India’s diverse traditions, historic landmarks, and spiritual depth attracts visitors from Japan. The exchange of cultural appreciation between the two nations enriches the bonds of friendship and mutual respect.

As “Kimono” rerpresents the cultural history and heritage of Japan, so is the value and importance of “Saree” in India. It is this reason that the Japanese women in India get fascinated towards Indian “Saree”.

The Kaseyyaka – The Authentic Banarasi Store owns the huge collection of traditional weaves from different parts of India – Banarasi Sarees from Kashi, the romantic cotton weaves of Kolkata, the colors of nature in Ajrakh and much more. It started catering to Japanese customers with the intent of not just selling the sarees to ladies from Japan, but to give them what we can call a ‘saree experience’. Because saree is not just a piece of cloth, it has our heritage, our ethnicity, beauty, womanhood, glamour, divinity imbibed and intertwined in the weaves.

Though the store makes Ready-to Wear sarees as well, but it earnestly believes that real cultural exchange would happen when women of foreign origin are made to learn how to wear Sarees themselves.

Ms. Tarannum, who is the better half of the owner of Kaseyyaka outlet, and a bilingual Indo-Japan Business Consultant, said, “With this intent in mind, we thought that it is necessary to boost the attraction and curiosity of people by telling that if they learn to wear a saree even in the simplest way, it opens the doors to the exploring the possibility of draping sarees in different styles.  We have hence forth invited Japanese women who have interest in Indian sarees, to attend our Saree Seminar Event on coming 16^th of November (Saturday) at Aju Ryokan, Sector 15, Part II, Gurugram.”

In this seminar Ms. Tarannum, is pouring her love for sarees out, to share the rich experience of saree with all the Japanese women.

Ms. Tarannum always remembers her childhood, when she would always be so mesmerized to see her mother draping beautiful sarees on special occasions. This love for sarees continued when she grew up. And working as a business and cultural bridge between India and Japan, Tarannum wishes to spread the joy of saree with her comrades from and in Japan. Because, that one mesmerizingly beautiful smile that comes on your face when you experience wearing a saree, gives us boundless happiness. We realized that Japanese ladies though have tremendous fascination towards Indian sarees, but not knowing how to wear it creates a disconnect between their fascination and practical experience of wearing a saree. This is thus an attempt to bridge the gap and share the joy.
