Japan’s First batch of Oxygen concentrators reaches Indian airport on Saturday
this assistance is in addition to what the Japan Foreign Minister Motegi had promised to Indian counterpart S Jaishankar in London recently to provide medical supplies to the tune of USD 50 million to India.
NEW DELHI: India on Saturday received the first batch of oxygen concentrators from Japan. This consignment forms the part of the emergency assistance Japan has announced to extend to India in response to the current surge of COVID-19 infections in India.
Japan recently had announced to rush 300 oxygen concentrators and equal numbers of ventilators to India.
Satoshi Suzuki, Ambassador, Japan to India, Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in India, and Prof. Ashok Kumar Chawla, Advisor, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) – Japan affairs, reached the IGI Airport on Saturday to formally receive the consignment.
Japan Ambassador Satoshi Suzuki today tweeted, “Witnessed the arrival of the first shipment of Japan’s assistance and its handover at IGI Airport. I am hoping these oxygen concentrators will help as many lives as possible.”
The first batch of help came via ANA Cargo flight. Another part of the equipment is likely to follow soon.
However, this assistance is in addition to what the Japan Foreign Minister Motegi had promised to Indian counterpart S Jaishankar in London recently to provide medical supplies to the tune of USD 50 million to India.
An earlier press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan had stated that the step came as a part of emergency assistance to India in Response to the Current Surge of COVID-19 Infections.
“Today, April 30, upon the request of the Government of India, the Government of Japan has decided to proceed with the procedure to provide 300 oxygen concentrators and 300 ventilators to India in response to the current surge of COVID-19 infections in India,” the release stated.
Japan stands with India, our friend, and partner, in her efforts to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through this additional emergency assistance, it said further.
