Korean Language Teachers’ Seminar cum Workshop at JNU
Korean Language Teachers Strengthening India-Korea Relations through Language and Culture: A Celebration of 50 Years of Diplomatic Ties.
New Delhi: As part of the year-long celebration of 50 Years of Diplomatic relations between Korea and India, the Centre for Korean Studies (CKS), School of Language Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in collaboration with Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI), Embassy of Republic of Korea organized Korean Language Teachers’ Seminar cum Workshop. The two- day’s workshop titled as “Korean Language Teachers Strengthening India-Korea Relations through Language and Culture:” was organized at the Convention Centre, JNU.
The inauguration was graced by dignitaries from the Embassy of Republic of Korea, Korean Culture Centre India, Officials from JNU, Faculty members from Korean Language Teaching Institutions in India and Principals of various schools in Delhi and NCR.
Hwang IlYong director of Korean Culture center said ‘I feel very honored and glad that I could see and talk with all educators. Korean language is getting popular in India now. However, the popularity of Korean might be disappeared in the future. We need to prepare for the sustainable of Korean language in India. That’s why we are here and find the solutions.’
The Seminar aimed to bring together teachers, scholars, and enthusiasts of Korean language and culture in India, providing them a platform to come and discuss the current scenarios, issues and learn new teaching methodologies through hands-on workshop, exploring new future opportunities for Korean language learners in the next 50 years of Korea-India relations. The event consisted of keynote speeches and workshop sessions by renowned expert academicians from Korea. The Seminar Sessions included paper presentations and panel discussions. Workshop sessions was dedicated to the young teachers with brainstorming discussions among Korean and Indian experts aiming to develop new teaching techniques and methodologies.
The principal of Mount Abu public school, Jyoti Aurora mentioned the school started having Korean language class over 10years ago. The school has not only Korean language class but also cultural class like Samulnori, Korean percussion class and Taekwondo, the traditional martial arts. These classes help students to build up broaden perspective by learning other cultures and languages. Furthermore, She hopes that the cultural exchanges become an opportunity to strengthen ties between two countries. This seminar would be a good initiative to promote Korean Language in India more.
From South Korea the participating institutes were Kyung Hee University, Sookmyung Culture Center and Korea, Cyber HUFS. From India Manipur University, Manipur,EFLU, Hyderabad, University of Delhi, Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, VIT-Andhra Pradesh, Amity University, Gurugram, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Korean Cultural Centre India, King Sejong Institute Manipur , King Sejong Institute Patna , King Sejong Institute Chennai and Schools from Delhi NCR participated.
