Korean Queen Huh Hwang-ok story to appear in ICCR’s book on International love stories
NEW DELHI: Apart from a video-musical which is scheduled to be released in January, Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya who later became Queen Huh Hwang-ok after marrying the Korean King about 2000 years back, will get featured in a book by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
This book is coming out on people-to-people connect and lover stories from across the world.
The Director-General of ICCR Dinesh Patnaik told Asian Community News (ACN) Network that the story of Ayodhya Princess going all the way to Korea in 48AD and marrying King Kim Suro, and starting the whole dynasty there will be part of the book of love stories with Indian connect around the world.
It’s a beautiful story, and actually any Korean with Kim as their surname basically came from India because the entire Kim dynasty was started in Korea by Ayodhaya Princess, he added.
“We are taking out a book on human stories between different countries and India. We talk about politics, economics, and about all kinds of things but there are a few beautiful human stories on people-to-people relations and love stories, and there are a whole lot of such stories. We are compiling these stories from around the world, and one of these stories (in this book) is this Princess of Ayodhya story also,” said Patnaik.
According to Korean ancient history book, [Samguk Yusa], in AD 48, the Ayuta`s princess at the age of 16, crossed the ocean on a ship with Pasaseoktap on board under the order of the king of Ayuta, and married King Kim Suro, who founded Gaya in Korea.
This Ayuta is considered as Ayodhya of Uttar Pradesh. Based on this historical record along with other sources, Queen Huh story has been used to further strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between India and Korea, Queen Huh memorial park at Ayodhya will be the essence and symbol of this cultural & diplomatic tie.

While talking about the musical being made on Ayodhya Princess, ICCR Director-General said, “We are working with the Korean government to do a musical on this. We have taken the RFP on that, and we are putting money to do a musical on the princess of Ayodhya who went to Korea and married there and started the whole dynasty. By next year, you will be able to see the musical. We are doing it in such a way that we can show it in India as well as in Korea.”
He said that it’s a joint production but right now India was looking at doing it first in India with Indian actors and an Indian event management company to do it, and then take it to Korea at some stage to do it with both Korean and Indian actors.
