NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the world’s most popular Korean pop (K-Pop) band BTS’s label Hybe‘s headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul was simmering in blazing enthusiasm when the septet band was formally appointed as an honorary ambassador for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.
All seven members RM, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook were present on the occasion when the bid committee‘s co-chair and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, and others reached the Hybe’s office.
While making reference to the band‘s hit songs “Fire” and “Dynamite”, Prime Minister Han said, “With BTS alongside us, from the bidding to the hosting of the event, we can make Busan Expo into a festival on ’Fire‘ for people all over the world. I expect something like ’Dynamite.’ Let’s ‘light it up like dynamite.”
The PM Soo hoped that the aspiration to attract Busan Expo will spread all over the world riding the purple wave of BTS and ARMY.
“I am really grateful that BTS, the K-POP sensation with a strong global fandom, happily joined the nation’s efforts to host the World Expo 2030. Korea’s aspirations for World Expo 2030 Busan will spread across the globe just like the purple wave of BTS ARMY does. I feel reassured that BTS is now aboard with us. So now let’s, Light it up like dynamite!” said the PM in his Facebook post.
With competition from Rome (Italy) and Riyad (Saudi Arabia), South Korea has bid for hosting the World Expo in 2030 in Busan under the theme “Transforming Our World, Navigating Toward a Better Future”.
Other co-chairs of the bidding committee SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won, Busan mayor Park Heong-joon and Hybe CEO Park Ji-won also attended the ceremony.
In his address, BTS’s leader RM said, “It‘s a true honor that BTS has been appointed as ambassador for the 2030 Busan World Expo. We will do our best to make the bid successful. Starting with the global concert in Busan set for October, we will strive earnestly to support the bidding and contribute to spreading South Korea’s beautiful culture around the world. Again, we ask for everyone‘s love, attention and support for the Expo.”
A hi-powered delegation led by South Korea’s Prime Minister Duck-soo Han and the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Busan, had strongly presented the project to organise World Expo 2030 in Busan at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris last month claiming that Busan is an excellent choice for hosting the World Expo 2030.
