Modi tells Japanese investors India has robust biz ecosystem, invest more here
PM said this while interacting with a Japanese delegation led by former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga yesterday in New Delhi.
NEW DELHI: While asserting widespread economic reforms undertaken in India to improve the business ecosystem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Japanese investors to expand their existing investments and explore new avenues of cooperation.
The Indian PM said this during a meeting with Yoshihide Suga, Chairman, Japan-India Association (JIA) and former Prime Minister of Japan on Thursday in New Delhi. Modi was responding to Suga’s request for improvement in the business environment in India.
Suga is on a visit to India with a delegation of over 100 members comprising government officials, Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), and members of “Ganesha no Kai” group of Parliamentarians.
Prime Minister welcomed Suga on his maiden visit to India as the Chairman of JIA. The leaders exchanged views on further deepening Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan, including in the areas of investment and economic cooperation, railways, people-to-people linkages, skill development partnership, said a statement by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India.
It said that the Prime Minister had fruitful interaction with accompanying members of “Ganesha no Kai” Parliamentary group on strengthening Parliamentary linkages between the two countries. They welcomed the growing popularity of Yoga and Ayurveda in Japan and discussed ways to further strengthen cultural ties between India and Japan.
PM welcomed Keidanren members to India and highlighted widespread reforms undertaken in the country to improve the business ecosystem. He invited Japanese investors to expand their existing investments and explore new avenues of cooperation.
Earlier on the day before meeting PM Modi, Suga said during CII meeting that he himself would encourage private companies to invest in India, and in today’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi, he would request an improvement in the business environment.
“There is complete agreement between the Private and Public Sector in Japan regarding enhancing involvement and partnership with India. I hope that the representatives of Indian industry will deepen their cooperation with private companies in Japan and play a major role in the development of Japan-India economic relations. Your activities will be the “pillars” of economic relations between our two countries. We hope that you will continue to support us for the further development and deepening of Japan-India relations. I would like to conclude my remarks by praying for a further leap forward in economic relations between Japan and India.”
